I was driving by my local Gander Mountain late last week and noticed they had just put up a going out of business sign saying all must go and up to 50% off everything. I thought to myself, wow. I went right in and of course proceeded directly to the reloading supply isles. As suspected all the Varget, benchmark, 4895 and other powders I'm familiar with were already gone as well as all the primers. There was however 12 pounds of an Alliant powder called AR Comp left. Being the powder hoarder I am I snagged it all with a smile along with every box of 22 and 30 cal hornady bullets they had left. AR Comp isn't listed in any of my books and I was able to get some recipes off the old inner-webs for 308 and 223. It calls for 44.5 for a 150 grain 308 but doesn't list a starting and max load, I'm thinking 44.5 might be a compressed load in a 308.......and I'm OK with that, but.......anyone have experience with this powder? What are your thoughts?

I'm wondering why all the good stuff was gone and AR Comp was still sitting there?
I've been using it in .223 shooting a 68 gr. Hornady match BTHP with 23 grains of powder. Excellent groups which are nearly as good with 55 gr bullets. I've seen it repeatedly compared to Varget, but even less temperature sensitive. I'm planning to load up some .308 as well, but haven't done so yet. I actually went to buy some more at Gander this weekend, with gift certificates, but it was all gone.
