Beaver Valley Rifle and Pistol Club has been hosting Project Appleseed for eight years, and we are very thankful for their support. Some of the instructors who have been working this venue for several years commented on the improvements to the Club and particularly the Training range, where we spend most of our time on an Appleseed weekend.
Saturday started chilly, gloomy, and windy, as if to remind students and instructors of what the weather was probably like in Massachusetts on April 19th, 1775. And it stayed that way all day. Did I mention the wind? But the students buckled down to their task in good spirits and produced excellent results. There was a marked improvement in marksmanship between the AM and PM Redcoats, with Christian, Eric and Steve clearing their afternoon targets. On the one AQT attempted, Steve set the bar high for the weekend with a score of 228.
There was frost on the ground Sunday morning, but things heated up rapidly, both in temperature and marksmanship. Steve continued his torrid pace on the AQTs with scores of 221, 215, and 219. Christian earned his Rifleman patch with a 213. Ethan re-qualified with a 226 and followed that with the weekends' high score of 231, and Jeremy re-qualified with a 221.
Thanks to the students for warming our instructors' hearts with their attention and responsiveness to the heritage presentation and their excellent marksmanship. Thanks to the instructor crew for an outstanding performance, and I especially want to thank Fullmetal Rifleman for trading in her blue hat for an orange one, and also thank Texas T for doing an excellent job on his SBIT, so I could basically loaf all weekend.
Wind? We didn't let no stinking wind dampen the spirits on Patriot's Day weekend! :F
Adapt and overcome was the theme for Saturday. Thankfully, eveyone came dressed for the weather and we were able to layer and unlayer as the weekend progressed. Here are a few pics, please feel free to add more...
Some early instruction, including NPOA:
A little more instruction, and the team will be ready to hit the line...
Getting a chance to put some of that learning into practice...
Back to the classroom for a little more learning...
All of the work paid off. By the end of the day we had cleared three redcoats!!! :snipersmi
And by the end of the weekend, we had two new riflemen and a couple of requals. ^:)^
