Fun fact for your history info this weekend and next.  In 1775 Easter Sunday was on April 16 too.

Interesting.
Back in the day of the founders, it was understood that life, liberty, & the pursuit of happiness (property) was a divine endeavor.....gifts from our creator. It even inspired the black robe regiment, ministers who fought alongside their neighbors & kin to protect those divine gifts.

It is interesting that just 3 days after fiery sermons on Easter Sunday, April 16, 1775, the events of April 19, 1775, took place.  There was no Johnson Amendment esconced in law back then.

The Johnson Amendment was pushed by then Texas Senator Lyndon B. Johnson during a political campaign to squelch criticisms of him by ministers.  By pushing a law through Congress that would take away the tax exempt status of ANY minister's church if criticisms were levied against himself, the free political speech of all 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations, not just religious ones, was made illegal.  Incidentally, the RWVA is a 501(c)(3) for which the law also applies.

It is likely the Founders would have found this law repugnant to Liberty.  Certainly the Black Robe Regiment ministers who spoke out against the tyranny of the crown would have believed so.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnson_Amendment for more on this.
