What a great way to spend a weekend! Even without our Shoot Boss and great friend Ken, who was call away for work at the last moment, you guys all showed remarkable improvement in your marksmanship skills. Hans really stepped up as did all the other instructors to help fill the void. The weather was excellent with Saturday being cloudy but dry and Sunday was sunny almost all day. Saturday we had three Rifleman scores on the only AQT of the day. Congratulations to Drew who shot a 211, Lanny shot a 226 and Sam requalified with a 233. Sunday after some review, sighter shots and the ball and dummy drill we were back to the AQT's. By the way, how did you guys like Han's Quick and Dirty AQT? By the end of the day we had seven shooters who had shot their Rifleman scores. Sam J shot a 210 to requalify. Gary shot a 208, a 209 and then broke through with a 214. Lanny requalified with a 215. Ron shot a 218 for bragging rights over Marta. Drew upped his score from Saturday with a 220. Dave shot a very impressive 236 and Sam had the high score for the day with an unbelievable 246! All the shooters over the weekend showed great improvement and the Redcoat Targets prove it.
(25 shooters) (23 shooters)
Saturday Sunday
100 yard effective range: 32% 30%
200 yard effective range: 20% 39%
300 yard effective range: 8% 4%
400 yard effective range: 12% 22%
Target Cleared: 4% 17%
That is some pretty impressive results. Remember that a Rifleman persists. So even if you didn't earn a Rifleman patch this weekend, you have the knowledge and tools to become a Rifleman. All you need to do is practice and come out for the next shoot. Thanks to all the instuctors and especially thanks to all you shooters for making this such a safe and fun shoot and please add your comments to this post. See you at the next shoot and don't forget to bring a friend.
P.S.
Try to come to the East Bay Regional Park District meeting on Tuesday, March 1st at 2:00PM. The meeting is at Redwood Canyon Golf Course. The fate of the Chabot Rifle Range will be voted on by the EBRPD board and this is our last chance show our support for the range.
thanks everyone,
The Horse

Thank you everyone for coming out to this shoot! I had a great time as always, and it seemed like everyone else enjoyed themselves and learned a lot. And the scores say a lot too- almost 1/3 of the shooters scored Rifleman! That's amazing.

I hope to see a lot of you at the meeting on March 1st. If Chabot is closed down, not only will we no longer be able to host Appleseed clinics there, but it will set a precedent for the closure of all the other bay area shooting ranges.
