Title: Ammo coding/ID...defacto gun control?
Post by: The Machine on December 03, 2008, 02:29:04 PM
I'm a newb here, but a longstanding advocate of liberty and freedom. I did a search on this forum for posts related to the current pending legislation in many states pertaining to ammo coding--didn't find anything substantial.

Ever since the recent Heller case in the SCOTUS slapped the anti-gun freaks in the face, the latest tactic being used is to get ammo coding laws passed in all 50 states. Myself and others believe that this is a top down process, originating from orders at UN headquarters--surprise, surprise! Currently, 18 to 19 states have legislation pending on this issue. It is my understanding that the legislation would require etching a code onto the bottom of all bullets.

Now, we know how wonderful government is at offering "solutions" to fabricated "problems". Usually the end result is making criminals out of otherwise law-abiding citizens, and this ammo situation is no different. So, what would be the implications if this law passes in your state?

Here's what I envision:

1. If a person has stockpiled uncoded ammo, and is found out, you're a criminal. All your time and money invested in ammo will be gone when it is confiscated. The lucky ones will get a slap on the wrist--I don't see that happening myself. I think they will be used to instill fear into the non compliant.

2. If you live in a state that doesn't require gun registration, you will now be registered in a database  when you purchase ammo. These globalist people might be evil, but they're not idiots. If you are buying ammo there is a good chance that you are a gun owner--duh.

3. Folks are complaining about the cost of CF ammo now, but estimates show that coding could drive the price up 3 to 10 times higher. Most average citizens will no longer have the financial means to purchase ammo.

4. I think this will apply to reloaders as well, since most don't cast their own bullets.

There probably are more things that such a law will impact, but I believe the ones I mentioned are the biggies. It all boils down to defacto gun control.

Folks need to see if their state has this law in the pipeline and get it shut down immediately. I personally live in WV and there is no such law pending at this time, but I will have many eyes watching diligently for any move towards one. Just because there might not be a coding law in your state, if you travel into a state that does have such a law, and you are packing uncoded ammo, tag...your it! AS events would be a wonderful place for these creeps to have an ammo shakedown.

The following are states that have been confirmed to have pending ammo coding law(s):

Alabama              Illinois             Missouri             South Carolina
Arizona               Indiana            New Jersey        Tennessee
California             Kentucky         New York           Washington
Connecticut         Maryland         Pennsylvania       Your state next...
Hawaii                Mississippi        Rhode Island

I'm just trying to address this potential--very real--problem before it bites us in the butt. ;)

Hello Machine,
Good to see you here. We love new people. You are going to help save the country

I'll tell you two things about how we do that:
#1 NSSF has killed all of those pieces of proposed legislation several months ago

#2 It's what we call an iceberg.  The ship dodged it.
we have hit several icebergs already, they ripped holes in the side, water's coming in fast.  As a good Appleseeder you won't sit in the deck chair and watch the icebergs go on by.

Grab a bucket, head for the bilges and start bailing.

Like Fred say
Appleseed is the solution.
To put it in perspective please look here:

Ammo coding efforts aren't new, nor are they a response to Heller.  This has been going on for several years.  You are listing below states that have "pending" ammo coding laws, but "pending" simply means that someone introduced a bill to that affect.  Most of these bills HAVE already been shut down (and almost none were introduced after Heller).  That doesn't mean we shouldn't be vigilant - we need to continue to monitor legislation as it is introduced and continue to write congresspeople about legislation we like and don't like.  We need to continue to awaken other Americans who will help us be vigilant in protecting our rights.

QuoteMyself and others believe that this is a top down process, originating from orders at UN headquarters--surprise, surprise!

Other than abstractly, the UN doesn't care whether Americans have gun rights.  Much more concretely, millions of Americans believe in gun control and elect representatives who implement gun control.  I'm much more worried about my neighbor and his voting habits than what anyone outside the US thinks.  We are definitely our own worst enemy, and we fix that my staying on message about Appleseed.

Welcome Aboard, TM.

Now, lets get you to an Appleseed Shoot!

Problems and crisis abound, they are everywhere trying to destroy Liberty.
Write your letters to your elected reps, get your friends to do the same.  Activate like minded individuals.

I was at an IPSC (I think) shoot many years ago and a Congressman actually sent a helper there to talk to us (election year).
He said the current crisis was very important, they had gotten many letters on it.  I asked how many?  He said somewhere
between one and two dozen.  WOW!  That meant that everyone there that day had not sent in a letter.  Some were embarrassed, because
we all realized that not everyone there had sent in a letter.  I got mad.

That is what Appleseed is about, waking up our sleeping breathern and associates, then enlightening them into our History and
sending them forth to bring others into the fold.  Waking up sleeping Americans for the revolution that is coming in November 2010, because if we
wait till 2010 there will not be enough time to awaken enough folks.

In our country we have a revolution every two years, and we change leadership at the ballot box.  The best mechanism for doing that is
Project Appleseed, waking up sleeping Americans by lighting a fire for Liberty! ;D

Even better, get your Reps to an Appleseed. We did that up here, and now we have a friend in the Statehouse.

Best is to do all of it. Write your Reps, write your local papers, bring your friends and your reps to an Appleseed.

Yup, like the man said, just another Iceberg. We know the world is full of them, we need to bail the ship out, not watch for more Icebergs.

We know Appleseed is about "awakening" the sleeping Americans. That's why we "SEVENTH STEP."

What to do about your neighbor who votes against our rights?

When we find the "like  minded" neighbors or new acquiaintances, and we proceed into the  SEVENTH STEP, we ought to ask our friends if they are registered to vote!   A batch of your state's VOTER REGISTRATION FORMS in the glove box or your briefcase is a good tool to have in your "WAKE UP AMERICA!" toolkit.  If you get them excited about taking action to protect and preserve this country, you just might be able to get them to go to the polls.

I personally ask "Are you registered?  Do you vote?  every time I am "SEVENTH STEPPING".

Hello again Sam. After probing around I figured out that you were the guy I heard on Derry Brownfield talking about AS. I am here because of you, good job! :)

Could you please elaborate about item #1 above?  Specifically, what did they do to kill the legislation? All the states that I listed currently have coding legislation pending, and some have several bills--IL has 2 or 3 as I write this.

I know that these tactics have been tried in the past without success, but the anti-gunners are very dedicated, determined, and heavily backed by cash. I'm just trying to raise awareness in folks that may not know this issue has resurfaced again.

Look how long the neocons have taken to implement their agenda. This stuff has been in the works way before Cheney still had a full head of hair. We now have the Patriot Act; Military Commissions Act; National Defense Authorization Act; National Security Presidential Directive (NSPD) 51; Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD) 20; various Executive Orders (EOs)--11921 is a real gem--previously known as National Security Directives and Presidential Decision Directives; and many other assaults on liberty.

You can deal with an iceberg if you know where it is, unfortunately the ones I mentioned slipped by.

I have already deleted the NSSF newsletter concerning microstamping.
None of that stuff stays on the machine more than 24 hours.
If you go to their website  http://www.nssf.org/ you could probably look it up.

Glad you heard the Brownfield Show.  It was a different experience for me.

I'm in agreement with most of what you stated metalbot, however, I wasn't trying to imply that ammo coding is a new phenomenon in response to Heller. I was trying to portray--maybe poorly--a renewed vigor of what has been tried unsuccessfully before, with the Heller decision acting as a catalyst. Let's face it; no matter how you slice or dice it, Heller was historical and has triggered many repercussions by the anti-gun devotees. You know the drill...we win a battle, they come back and ratchet things up.

QuoteMyself and others believe that this is a top down process, originating from orders at UN headquarters--surprise, surprise!

I have to respectfully disagree with most of that statement, except for the last sentence. If anyone would take the time and know where to look, there are many roads that lead back to the UN--smoking bans, War on Drugs, Gun Control, etc. You'll have to trust me on this one, since I don't like to divulge too much sensitive info on an internet forum. Which leads up to my neighbors...personally, I'm more worried about them being snitches, rather than their voting record. ^-^

TM, this issue is but one of at least dozens, if not hundreds, of threats looming before us. We can focus on dodging one - or two - and all the rest  will hit the ship.

There is one universal remedy for all of them - and that is an awake, educated, alert American people. We know that because the Founders told us so, and it simply makes common sense.

The route to waking up Americans is Appleseed.

And the task that lies before us is so great in scope that we cannot afford the luxury of "counting the icebergs", as counting the icebergs deflects us and distracts us from The Mission. We get the ship fixed, a good crew and a savvy captain, and we don't have to worry about the icebergs.

I apologize if the post broke protocol, but it won't happen again.

Machine,
No apologies needed sir - we have all been where you are and most of us still struggle with "naming the icebergs" from time to time. We know they are there - we are not oblivious - we have simply embraced a different priority system. The "ship" is already sinking - no point in zeroing future or even imminent threats.

We are all about bailing here - fast and hard - eye on the prize - Liberty!

A Wade would say "I can live in the problem or I can live in the solution. The solution is Appleseeds.

350,000,000 Americans - 100 Senators - the math is good.  8)

Get to an event - learn the tradition of thems that came before us - then, pass that tradition on to others as fast as you can.

Maybe, just maybe, we can save our good ship in time.

They had no guarantees on the morning of April 19th, 1775. In point of fact - it would have been considered "folly" by many for a bunch of farmers to take on the most powerful army the world had ever know.

They had two things going for them. They placed a value upon Liberty in excess of their own lives and they trusted in the rightness of their cause. They fought so that we would never have to.

A nation of Riflemen, alert, informed and aware - will always be free.

We must convince our fellow (sleeping) Americans to step up and become involved in the process that was purchased in our stead at a cost of blood and sacrifice beyond our spoiled imagination.

We descend from a long line of people that excelled at doing precisely what they were told could not be done.

Once you learn to let the icebergs go - you will find great peace and by Appleseeding every day, a sense of accomplishment that money cannot buy. When you look at an American flag - you will know that while others talk about what is wrong - you are actually doing something about it!

Welcome aboard sir,
PH

TM, received the same message last week from a friend in Arizonia.  Kalif.
has it on the books for ammo ID and each firearm a signature within a certain
time frame even though the tech is not here ++)   This one with the 18 states
and coded ammo is to include all ammo including .22.   Haven't figured out how
shot shells will work.   Seems not only a method to limit and register the ammo,
but each round WILL BE TAXED.  An example given was .05 tax per .22 LR cart-
ridge.   Bet there will be a run on bayonets when ammo becomes unaffordable :'(
Perhaps the begining of a second Boston Tea Party >:D &) &) &)

This additional infringement on our gun rights is being sold to the various state legislatures as the Ammunition Accountability Act. It is yet another reason that ammo sales are surging and supplies of some calibers are in very short supply.

Unfortunately, most in government have forgotten their legitimate role of protecting our rights as administrative law replaces the common law across the land and sweeps away our rights in the bargain. The haughty power brokers have lost touch with the plain and simple notion that they are supposed to be our servants and not vice versa.

One of the interesting portions of this bolshevic inspired madness is the necessity for all private stockpiles of unmarked and unregistered ammo to be destroyed or the possessor will be in violation of the "law".

As I understand things, we leave the icebergs to the more conventional 2nd amendment groups like the NRA, GOA, CRKBA, 2nd AF, etc., and just concentrate on the wake-up calls...

I think we need a 'Government Accountability' act...the process of elections doesn't work anymore when the politicians discover, as they have, a way to negate the voters by misinformation and lying, brainwashing-from-birth by control of the schools and media, and bribery. They have been at it for more than a generation and have succeeded handsomely. It may take another generation of grassroots efforts like this to turn the tide. In the meantime we (both Appleseed and the 2AF orgs) are going to have to bail like mad and dodge the next bunch of icebergs.

Frankly, with the Constitutional Convention effort only lacking two more states to request one for it to be a reality, our entire way of life may soon be up for grabs.

I think that we will see the balkanization spoke about by many. We here in the Old South stand the best overall chance in maintaining our freedom, but I really don't think it'll be a cake walk.

Steve Scroggins is a volunteer contributor to the Georgia Heritage Council who lives in Macon.

PRINT THIS

Even before Barry Soetoro (aka Barack Hussein Obama - known supporter of gun control and prohibitive ammunition taxes) was elected President, a form of "back-door gun control" was sweeping through state legislatures across the country in 2008.

Larry Pratt, Executive Director of Gun Owners of America, in his column entitled, "ENCODING AMMUNITION WILL ONLY AID CRIMINALS," warned us about it back in February of 2008. During 2008, "Encoding" Legislation popped up in numerous states including Maryland, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and others...and actually passed in California. See NRA's website listing of related legislation.

With SB 12, the ammo taxers and gun grabbers aim their assault at Georgians once again.

Senator Ronald Ramsey, Sr. (D., 43rd District) has prefiled Senate Bill 12 in the Georgia General Assembly for the session to open in 2009. The bill requires that all ammunition sold or possessed in Georgia must be have unique codes stamped onto the projectile, the casing and the retail packaging. It provides for a database to track the purchases of said ammunition and for the projectiles and casings sold for hand loading. It provides penalties for those possessing or selling unencoded ammunition. It provides for taxing the ammunition (projectiles, casings or cartidges) at one half cent per round.

As Pratt suggests, the crime reduction and law enforcement payoff for this measure is highly questionable and its alleged value comes nowhere near justifying the cost of enforcement and data collection. It is highly questionable whether such measures would result in any credible crime-solving tool. As the NRA points out, various ammo tracking schemes at the national level were abandoned because they are not feasible or worthy of the effort. In addition, the ATF's record-keeping practices have long been in question.

ATF (BATFE - Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) has a database of thousands of machine guns registered as required by law. According to Pratt, a BATFE training video depicts former BATFE registry head Thomas Busey telling new BATFE agents that the machine gun registry is "about 50 percent inaccurate."

Pratt writes,

Canada has had a handgun registry since 1934 that has never, ever, once been used to solve a crime. Their effort to register long guns has resulted in failure and scandal (hackers have penetrated the system and stolen guns from collectors identified in the registry).

Knowing this, does anyone believe for a minute that BATFE, which cannot keep an accurate data base of a few thousand machine guns, can actually keep track of hundreds of millions of bullets? Police will end up solving crimes the way they do now -- without help from gun or bullet registries.

Does anyone believe that the Georgia Department of Public Safety can do any better with a database of millions (perhaps billions) of bullets?

As the NRA points out in their Ammunition Summary, there is a long history of efforts to curtail and restrict private gun ownwership by taxing or outlawing ammunition. NRA lists numerous good reasons to oppose the Maryland (2008) legislation and any similar ammunition encoding legislation.

In effect, such ammo legislation becomes a massive tax on ammunition users who will foot the bill which effectively infringes on our Second Amendment rights and which makes recreational shooting cost prohibitive. .22 Caliber ammunition which can be used in rifles as well as handguns is subject to this tax.

Anyone with minimal knowledge of ballistics knows that hollow points and fragmenting projectiles are very unlikely to be recoverable with usable encoding. Revolvers and guns equipped with brass catchers will not leave encoded casings at crime scenes. And finally, we know that criminals obey "gun control" laws in the same manner that politicians follow their oaths of office. Most steal the weapons and ammunition they use in crime. The proposed database will lead police investigators to the victims of theft and very seldom to the wrongdoer.

As Mark Twain once said, "No man's life, liberty or property are safe while the legislature is in session." At least one legislator is plotting another goofy waste of your money... AND your liberties are under attack. We should all take action right away.

Various sportsmens groups (e.g., the Camo Coalition, et al) and gun rights groups are gearing up to oppose SB 12 in Georgia. We, the people, need to make sure that this attempt to take our rights fails.

Please contact your State Senator and House Representative (and Sen. Ramsey) and let them know you oppose SB 12. You can use the form on the Camo Coalition website ( www.camocoalition.com/takeaction.asp?aaid=3669 ) or write your own email. Find your legislator.

Below is the letter I wrote to Sen. Ramsey, Sen. Staton and Rep. Peake.

Opposed to SB 12

I am opposed to SB 12 you pre-filed requiring coding of ammunition used in handguns. I am copying my state senator and representative with this message so they will know of my opposition and to ask them not to support this bill.

This bill is a threat to the Second Amendment and to all hunters and shooters. As a Georgia Sportsman, I appreciate your dedication to public service; however, I oppose any public officials' attempt to negatively impact my sport, our outdoor traditions or my second amendment right through measures such as this.

SB-12 is a massive tax on ammunition users requiring enormous spending on tracking efforts with very very little payoff in terms of law enforcement. I buy ammunition for my .22 caliber guns (rifles and handguns) by the hundreds because they are more affordable for the target shooter. Your feel-good legislation accomplishes nothing substantial in crime reduction while making our recreation prohibitively costly.

Sir, as an attorney, do you have any knowledge of ballistics? Hollowpoint rounds disintegrate on impact and leave little trace. Revolvers and weapons equipped with brass-catchers leave no brass at crime scenes. Again, SB-12 offers very little value relative to its cost. I urge you to research the subject and withdraw this harmful legislation. Doing otherwise suggests that your real motivation is to effectively neuter the 2nd Amendment.

Sincerely,

Steve Scroggins

QuoteFrankly, with the Constitutional Convention effort only lacking two more states to request one for it to be a reality, our entire way of life may soon be up for grabs.

I don't buy this.

I've heard about it, and I don't buy into its realistic capability to alter American government.

The nature of a new Constitutional Convention is inherently aristocratic or even downright despotic.  "Representatives" for the states to such an event would not be specially elected, but rather insiders to the ConCon process.  Essentially... lobbyist beaurocratic rabblerousers.

You're gonna tell me that I'm going to cede any authority to anything that comes out of a room full of those fools?  Or that the rest of America is either?

From Oakland CA to Baton Rouge LA, there will be millions upon millions of people who collectively would shout at the greatest roar possible:  WTF!?!  Quite literally, any person whose name is known to attempt to abrogate the BoR in favor of an EU-style governing document that is thousands of pages long... will have a greater than average interest in private security firms, to say the least.

ConCon is just that... a Con.  Worry not about it, nor about the supposed opposing movement, the Continental Congress (another ConCon).

Stay the course, fix the climate.  This is just one storm, and frankly the ConCons are just tempests in a teacup.

Wade and AZRed have it nailed.

There are many different threats to our Liberties and Freedoms, there always has been, always will be.  The Founding Fathers discussed many of these same threats, as they were setting up our Constitution and BoR.

They came to the very conclusion that Appleseed has.

You must have the support of the American people for Liberty and the American people are the only ones that can protect their Liberty.

So, you name all the threats to our Liberties you can......what have you DONE?  Very little

The Founding Fathers told us what we should be doing.  That is sharing our Love of Liberty, Love of Country, and preserving the Honor to those that sacrificed to start this nation.

Boy, that sounds just like Appleseed.   <:)

So, our job, as Americans it to teach our fellow Americans to appreciate their American Heritage.  To honor those that made the sacrifice for their Freedoms.  This will be the only sure way to ensure that this nation stays the course our Founders set us on, and not veer off in some destructive direction.

It is We the People that have the power over the rudder of USS America....She will go nowhere that we won't steer her.  However we do have to steer her, if more of us do not know where we came from, or know what course the Founders have plotted for us, well, we might as well not have a rudder.

So, you newer folks, listen to those that have been here for a while.  Don't waste your energies worrying about "ice bergs", all those things that are out to destroy our nation, to destroy USS America.  Get busy getting more people to understand that course our Founders intended for us and where we came from.  This is the surest way to ensure that we don't hit an ice burg.....staying the course.   Just naming the ice bergs, and talking about them, that won't keep them off of our bow...

What Wade, funfaler, and AZ said.

Stick with this program, put your shoulder to the wheel, push as hard and long as you can - and in 2012, three years from now, we'll be shaking the hand of the 100,000th Appleseeder/rifleman.

    Not impressed?

Then stick with us four more years, push as hard as you can - and in the year 2016, we'll be shaking the hand of the 1,000,000th Appleseeder.

Not impressed with 1,000,000 potential riflemen?

     I'm not either.

So I intend to stick with the program another year, and make it double again - so that in 2017, there's TWO million Appleseeders.

But, like you (I hope), I will still not be impressed, so I will redouble my effort (and hope you will too, as we'll be getting so close to the goal) so that in 2018, we'll shake the hand of the FOUR millionth Appleseeder.

Now, do you wanna stop there? :)

Sooner are later, if we keep doubling, we'll even run out of Americans (I figure about the year 2026) - but long before then, we'll have enough in this country - enough Americans educated and wake about their heritage - that Liberty in this country will have the strength and support of the American people - and the founders will be right, once again - there is nothing stronger than the American people, their hearts and souls fired with The American Revolution.

      Crazy? Maybe.

      We gonna do it? Yes.

Never forget. We started three years ago, with nothing, from nothing. This year, one of us will shake the hand of the 10,000th Appleseeder.

We can do this even faster, but we need your help - your unqualified, dedicated, stick-to-it-to-the-end, help.

This is a plan to save a country.

A plan which requires only one thing. That we can wake up our fellow Americans and get them to bailing the sinking ship.

As long as we can do that, we can save the ship.

That rosy prospect is confirmed by the rapid growth of this program. Our track record to date is what should encourage you, fire you, energize you to join us.

      We're gonna do it.

And remember; a Rifleman who knows what he is about, has more power than a hundred average men.  So we will most likely start reaping the fruit of our labor, long before the full crop has come into harvest.
