Title: Bowie, MD November 7-8
Post by: southseasnurse on November 12, 2015, 11:06:09 AM
This past weekend we had 6 shooters turn up of at Berwyn Rod and Gun Club on Saturday for a day of history and marksmanship, including 3 officers.  Once again, we were blessed with capable shooters, with 5 of the 6 classifying on the opening redcoat and everyone within an inch or two of the square during morning sighters. The shooters were also able to master the positions and transitions with all due haste, so we were able to move rapidly through instruction and get through 2 AQT's by the end of the day.  Rob showed how it's done by putting up a 243, with all other shooters in the 190's.  On Saturday 5 shooters returned; after known distance teaching by Flintlocke,a quick set of sighters, ball and dummy, carding the sights, and a quick 25 yard AQT (Rob and Rusty requalified with 212 and 214, respectively), we moved on to a COF that to my knowledge is unique to Berwyn: The 100 Yard, Mini KD.  25 Yard Standing sized AQT targets are posted at 25, 50, 75, and 100 yards, and shooters are allowed to spot the rise and fall of their rounds, collect dope, and calculate sight adjustments for the varying distances.  When shooting standard velocity .22 out of an 18 inch barrel, the unadjusted drop is approximately 0, +2, -3, and -8 MOA at 25, 50, 75, and 100 yards and 12 came out on Saturday to see what Appleseed had to offer.  Rob demonstrated that skill translates, with 45/50 points using 'hits count' scoring.   The day concluded with the recognition of Flintlocke as completing his last step to full Red Hat...Huzzah!  It was a fun and productive day for students and instructors, and I hope the students come back to continue their pursuit of the patch in future Appleseeds.  Pictures are available on the Maryland Appleseed Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Project-Appleseed-Maryland-264406060313831/ (https://www.facebook.com/Project-Appleseed-Maryland-264406060313831/).  Thanks again to Flintlocke, MikeCee, and our gracious hosts at Berwyn Rod and Gun Club!
