Title: Windage problem on 10/22 with Tech Sights
Post by: maxwell on July 20, 2015, 04:10:37 AM
My wife has a 10/22 with 22" barrel, and we put rail-mounted Tech Sights on it. Unfortunately, the rear aperture has to be cranked fully to the right to find zero, and I had to cant the front sight to the left (by rotating the barrel) even for that to work. Does this sound familiar to anyone? My 10/22 carbine is a few clicks to the right, but I have lots of room for adjustment.

I've previously tried re-seating the V-block, with no improvement. Short of putting the barrel on a lathe to check the flange, or sending the rifle back to Ruger, is there anything I should try? I might swap receivers with my other 10/22.

There has been a rash of 10/22s since early 2014 that have the barrel hole in the receiver drilled crooked - off axis with the centerline of the receiver. It's not a problem with barrel-mounted sights, but becomes obvious with scopes or other receiver sights. I suggest you call Ruger's customer service department. They must be very accustomed to such calls by now.

If you return the rifle, make sure to replace any aftermarket parts you may have installed with the OEM parts, because you won't get them back.

Send it back quality control is hit or miss.

Thanks! Google was showing me hints of a QC problem, but I couldn't find anything definitive on the cause. I actually clamped a level to each side of the receiver in turn yesterday and measured the distance to the barrel with calipers. The difference was so huge that I started looking for other problems, thinking that had to be by design. I hate to send it in, but oh well.

I agree with those that say the receiver holes are off.

Get in touch with Ruger, send it back.

If you want to make sure, put the rear sight on a different 10/22.
