Title: bullet damage
Post by: Old Dog on July 13, 2007, 06:36:31 PM
Some "pulled" bullets have marks (ranging from a scratch to a slightly crimped line) on them from the collet.  Has anyone reloaded any of these and if so did it have a noticeble effect on the trajectory/accuracy of the bullets?

If the marks are slight and symmetrical, the difference is negligable.

If the marks are deep and symmetrical, there may be some additional drag, but accuracy shouldn't be affected.  Terminal ballistics, i.e. bullet break-up, may become a factor.

It's the asymmetrical pull marks that are problematic, although not always.  Tough to call.

If the bullet is really messed up, but still able to shoot through a barrel, it can still be used for load development, thus saving the better bullets.

Thanks, I might try pick out some of the worst ones and try them at 25 yds. (Appleseed & AQT).

I have fired with and without the pulled marks.   Also pointed
soft nose that have have flattened points from magazine
batter.   No noticable change in accuracy or impact change.
