At a recent AS, my new Ruger 10/22 began to get really stubborn, refusing to go into battery late on Saturday. It was really frustrating.
I started searching and found teardown and cleaning/maintenance advice from a website http://www.ruger22.com/
I got to the core of the problem when I got it disassembled, but could not tear the bolt apart.
Turns out that the firing pin rebound spring somehow managed to jam itself INSIDE the channel and BESIDE the firing pin! I grew suspicious and asked the gun shop where I purchased the LTR for help when I could not get the pin out. That's when I found out what was the core of the problem. I plan to share this info with Ruger vy soon.
Just thought I would throw this info out there in case anyone else suffers the same problem.

Had that problem on a Remington 742 once. That spring is similar in shape to a ball point pin spring (but heavier). It went bang on the first shot, click on the second (assumed I'd finally had a bad reload) and then click on the third round. I picked up the second shell and saw a faint firing pin mark on the primer. Ejected the second round and saw no mark on the primer. Tore it apart at the house (you know you gotta take the barrel off that thing to get the bolt out?? - bolt locks up in the barrel like an AR - maybe that's why its so accurate) and found about the last 3 coils of that spring had broken off and turned sideways in that firing pin channel allowing the firing pin to "spear" that piece and lock it up. Removed that piece, put it back together and no more issues. However, after that I vowed I'd never take one bear hunting. ;D
FiremanBill,
Thanks for the info on http://www.ruger22.com website. I signed up for the forum too.
