Title: M14 Air Rifle
Post by: azmule on May 19, 2015, 10:34:26 PM
There have been a couple threads about using air rifles to practice at home - I have a few of the CMP Daisys, but this is much cooler, if not quite as accurate...

CO2 powered, it autoloads from 8rnd clips and the bolt handle cycles with each shot.  $80

On one hand:  There's squirrel assassination in style!  On the other: 2.8 pounds - are you kidding me?  It's not proper if there's no grunt to it...

Interesting.  The biggest question in my mind is the sights.  Are they adjustable?  If not, could one change them out fairly easily for a proper set of sights?  The weight is a joke, but I'll bet a can of Bondo that the stock is hollow and could be filled with the afore mentioned can of Bondo (and maybe some shot) to give it a realistic weight.

If it has reasonable sights that you could dial in and you put a sling on it you could have a fair little 10 meter practice rifle.

According to the reviews, the rear peep is adjustable in the same manner as the real thing, though I assume it's all molded plastic, so likely not quite the same.  There is also a reviewer who mentioned using a 1907 sling with his, and another who sanded and painted his stock to look more like real wood.  I didn't see anything about anyone adding weight though.

I have one and use it for dry firing since the bolt handle will cycle with each pull of the trigger.
I put a GI web sling on it with no problem.

Seems to make more sense.  There's actually several repeating air rifles/pistols that use the same type of mechanism - a revolving plastic disk with 8 evenly spaced holes to load pellets/BBs into, when the bolt cycles, the disk revolves 1/8 turn to line up a fresh round for the bolt to feed in.  They most likely took an existing core mechanism and just designed new M14-shaped plastic around it.  Actually, according to the description, the "magazine" contains 2 of those 8-round clips, empty one and just pull and reverse the "magazine" to start shooting from the other.

But I'm just going by what's on the site - actually having one in hand, Terry could probably fill us in on all the details.

It actually uses a linear clip with 16 holes for the pellets.  You insert this clip in the magazine and shoot 8 then pull the clip out and reverse it upside down and shoot the next 8.  The magazine actually holds the two CO2 cartridges.

Let me know if you have any questions.

After actually looking at my air rifle I want to provide a few comments.

I did not remember that the clip while linear has an 8 round revolving disk at each end.

The rear peep sight is adjustable in the same manner as an actual M14 elevation and windage.  The front site is not adjustable.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

A commom problem with C02 guns is the drying of seals and consequent loss of propellent.

This product was strongly recommended and it works .  O0
