Title: S&B 22lr available in bulk
Post by: NJrefugee on March 20, 2015, 09:38:21 AM
I've never used this in any of my guns, so no idea how well it runs.  This makes me somewhat hesitant to grab 6000+ rounds.  However, thought I'd pass it along in case anybody has had good luck with this stuff in the past.

I've used it in .223 and .308. Can't say anything negative. .22's can be another story; if your particular rifle doesn't like it, you're SOOL. But it will probably work great in another platform. If I was in need, I wouldn't hesitate. You can always use it to barter for another brand.

CCI standard is out there and usually available in 2 brick to multi-case lots for about the same price.  The last case that I got was $399 for 5k rounds. I see Aquila HV for sale regularly for $49/brick as well.

The problem with ammo of this vintage, is that you have no idea how it was stored. Also depending on how it was stored there may be lubrication problems.

I have bought late 80's and early 90's surplus .22 ammunition. But I paid well under 1/4 of this price for it in 2013. The ammo that I bought was a good buy and appears to have been well stored. It was all still sealed in foil lined boxes, with no lube problems that I have seen.

from the ad

" manufactured in the 1980s and possesses wax coated lead bullets.  This is 'Target' ammunition that exhibits subsonic velocity "

I bought some of this from a batch that came in several years ago, the boxes look identical to those pictured

some of the wax lube was still syrupy  - on a hot day at the range, it melted and got over everything, gummed up my Ruger Mk II pistol bad, drop  a round on the ground  and it was the worst dirt magnet ever

some the wax had dried out and turned crusty yellow  made feeding from the mag and chambering difficult

I took  a shredded AS t-shirt I used as a rag and wiped off each round before prepping mags, worked much better

slightly underpowered compared to CCI Blazer,   almost   as good accuracy

when I got it, it was 3 cents a round and I felt I paid too much

I guess 8 cents a round plus shipping is supposed to be a bargain today
