Title: NW Rifleman Challenge!
Post by: ItsanSKS on February 03, 2015, 06:44:43 PM
Prescott has issued a challenge to the OR instructors, offering to buy a tasty beverage for the highest AQT score amongst instructors in his state.  This challenge has inspired me to issue a challenge of my own:

The Instructor who shoots top Rifleman score in the NW region will receive a steel "D" silhouette from me.

Rules:
Iron sights only
.30 cal rifle only
Surplus/commercial grade ammo only (no hand-loads or commercial match ammo)
25m AQT- all standard rules and time limits apply
Score must be witnessed by a Red Hat instructor (or higher)
Target must be shot during a scheduled Appleseed marksmanship clinic.
A picture of the target, rifle and ammo must accompany the entry.
Valid only for instructors who reside in the states of WA, OR, ID, MT, WY & AK.
Entries must be received not later than Dec. 15, 2015 (unless there is an event scheduled after December 15th, but before Jan 1.)

There must be at least 10 individual entries for contest to be valid.

Winner will receive (1) full size D silhouette, made from 3/8" AR500 steel.

For you whiners that don't have an iron-sighted .30 caliber rifle- you've got a whole year to buy one, and learn to shoot it.  I'd especially love to see an SKS take the top spot, but I might be biased.

That's a generous offer!  I'll have my M1 at the KD in March, see if I can't make some magic.

Read it again, Fixer, not a KD AQT, but a twenty-five meter AQT. Just highest score wins ^-^, we Can Shoot every Appleseed at least once. This is great! Thanks ItsanSKS.  O0

I was going to work every member of the crew into shooting on every Appleseed one Redcoat and one AQT. For a bit of motivation for the crew that will never get to shoot enough. @)

So when you say .30 cal, does that include dirty rotten red Chinese rifles (not that I'm likely to win, I'm a glutton for punishment!)?

Yup, bullet diameter of .308" or larger.

Contemplating my sight options now for my DPMS http://www.midwayusa.com/find?sortby=1&itemsperpage=24&newcategorydimensionid=17074&pageNumber=1

It's the no hand loads that's a bother. My groups go from 4 to 2 with 180g Nosslers.

I'm not worried so much about opportunity to shoot the M1 for score as I know that I will have ample opportunity.  Mostly I need to practice the 2 rd loading procedure.

And Earl, I remember you and I talking about that Instructor Redcoat/AQT thing.  I'm glad it stuck with you, I think it's a great idea.

Careful offering .30 cal or bigger...I hear Mark Davis is pretty skookum with his 45-70, and that makes a mighty big hole on 25m targets!

Think he meant that ".30 cal only" includes the .311"  7.62x39, not really ".300 OR LARGER"

Yes, quite right. Any .30 caliber rifle cartridge is acceptable.
