All males, is this school of infantry? I've heard from marines first hand that they're using optics in training (not sure which location) and 500m qual is more like a "shoot five rounds (or whatever), check the box, now move out" affair (of course this is what marines who've been in a few years groan and wail that the boots are doing, so It could be as much bs as the army's much ballyhooed stress cards). This is a damn sight better than what the army taught me, we had a kd range in basic (just down the street from the amu compound too) but we didn't know what we were supposed to be doing. Think we even had sandbags (smh).

That is USMC basic training.  The Marine Corps is the only service which keeps its basic training companies segregated by gender (and I agree with them).

The course of fire you are seeing is Basic Rifle Marksmanship.  There are other, subsequent, training and qual courses for optics equipped rifles and carbines in both KD and dynamic environments.

I am not a former Marine, but I have to applaud the Marine Corps for having the most comprehensive marksmanship training program in the Armed Forces.  The Army cannot compare.

Certainly a world ahead of the training you see with the USAF.

I remember getting screamed at while at the range for using my sling because the instructors had never seen it used for anything besides carrying the rifle  :shootself:. Thank god I trained outside of the the Air Force provided training. A family friend taught me to shoot; He was on the USMC shooting team years ago.

During my range quals for my current overseas contract the line official actually asked me if I was Hollywood Marine or Parris Island... I'll never forget his look when I told him I was prior Air Force.

I heard one of the coaches yell to check for your natural point of aim.
