It was a fantastic weekend. Corvette brought the house down telling the strikes!

Wow, what a special weekend we had at Tusco Rifle Range in New Philadelphia, Ohio this past weekend. It started Friday afternoon when Slim and I met to set up for the weekend. Late Friday, Slim and I had the pleasure of meeting Les Pickford.  Les was on the line shooting several Mosin Nagants that his son had sent to him to work up some custom load for.  Les invited both Slim and I to take some shots at targets posted at 300 yards.  His loads were spot on and Les was really excited to see both of us shoot his rifles out to 300.
Saturday dawned overcast but not bad weather wise.  The weekend opened with the usual welcome and safety briefing.  Soon the initial Red Coat was shot and we were into our morning of instructions. Everyone worked hard Saturday to "drink from the firehose".  Progress was made and it was clear from the initial groups that we had some shooters on the line.

After steady hold, the six steps and NPOA we were at lunch and the First Strike.  Everybody came back after lunch charged up and ready to work on seated, off hand and a practice AQT.  The mid-afternoon break provided time for the Second Strike and before we knew it, Saturday came to a close with the afternoon Red Coat and the Third Strike.

Sunday dawned clear and sunny, it was a perfect fall day. The morning Red Coat showed that folks had not lost much.  Sunday morning, we had 16 of 17 shooters competent at 100 yds and 8 (half) good out to 200 yards. We had 4 people join Daniel Morgan and 2 cleared Red Coats.  Pretty great start to Sunday.
After some drills we started a series of AQT's that brought the shooters to the top. We made 5 Riflemen on Sunday (two requalifiers, three new Riflemen).  The scores were just outstanding.  There were ten total Riflemen scores on Sunday ranging from 217 to 237.  Great shooting was demonstrated by all.
Most improved for the weekend had to be Sam.  Sam is a young budding Rifleman of around 10 that went from just cutting paper on Saturday to two shots away from clearing his Red Coat on Sunday. HUGE improvement.

However, the highlight of the weekend had to be when Baz got his patch. A veteran Appleseeder who finally got over the top and earned his patch, his excitement was just special. (As someone who took five Appleseeds to finally get it, I understood the joy in finally getting over the hump.)

The day came to a close with the DOMs at the afternoon break and an Ode to a Rifleman at the end of the day. Suddenly, the weekend ended on a high note for all. Thanks to CornfedinOhio, Wheeler, Slim, Chippendale and all the shooters for a great event.  Looking forward to seeing everybody on the line again next year.

I heard rumors of some new Orange hats.  Any truth to this? ;)

I'm glad it was a great shoot at the nicest range I've been to.

Was there any cross pollination opportunities with all the additional air gunners and High Power shooters running around that weekend?

Chuck

Bas picked up an orange hat. He shot rifleman at least 4 AQTs. His enthusiasm made my day! He is a joy to spend the day with. He has a great demeanor and is an excellent marksman.
You missed a great day Chuck.

Sorry for the delay in getting pictures up.

Please join me in welcoming our two new Red hats.  As soon as I get forum names from Baz and Ken G I will post them in the Ohio Forum.  Welcome two both of these fine Riflemen for stepping up and joining the Ohio Team.
