Title: Sevierville, Tennessee, August 22-23, 1014
Post by: CokeGuy on August 24, 2014, 05:40:39 PM
A very enthusiastic group of students with a teachable attitude participated in our third Appleseed at Wears Valley Ranch. The weather cooperated with only a short period of heavy downpour on Saturday. Heat (90) and humidity were constant however.

Brian shot a respectable 212 Rifleman score at his second Appleseed. He also asked to take an Orange Hat, which will be presented upon receipt of his completed PC. Gary and Tyra were very pleased with their improvement during the course of their first Appleseed and plan to attend again (she had only shot one round in her new rifle before attending).  Bill and Thom were pleased with their learning and improvement and also plan to attend again, perhaps in November. Young Will and Jack gained valuable experience in rifle safety and Appleseed procedures.  Kam is knocking on the Rifleman door, and Jim decided that perhaps he should have not come with a tube-fed...I think his wife may end up with a plinker!

We were honored and so pleased to have 9mm4545 (Florida state coordinator) and his wife, Rambo Granny, join us for the two days. Both not only re-qualified (she outshot him with a score of 241), but they also helped with instruction and history presentations. Thanks to you both!

Thanks to all the students and instructors for being so cooperative in helping me to grind through my first SBit event. It was a pleasure to spend this time with all of you!

If this event is any indication, the Tennessee Appleseed program is in fine hands. What an enjoyable time we had and in such a beautiful location! I was overjoyed to see such an enthusiastic and capable instructor corps; the young folks in that group were outstanding. I do plan on returning for another Appleseed in the hills of East Tennessee. In no particular order, here are some of the photos taken before, during, and after...

This Appleseed at Wears Valley Ranch was a special one for me. Actually, I feel that every Appleseed is special but this one was a joy to work and associate with the fine folks in eastern Tennessee. Since this shoot was a Fri.-Sat. event I was able to plan some much anticipated father/daughter time with Red Niva after the shoot and spend the day Sunday in the Pigeon Forge area and take in the sights. (and do a little go kart racing :)) Does a weekend get any more perfect??

The shooters showed great eagerness and really made efforts to practice what was just poured out of the firehose of instruction. From the opening Redcoat Friday morning to the final one on Saturday afternoon significant improvement was recognized from one end of the firing line to the other. In spite of the heat, numerous rifle/ammo malfunctions, the typical brass burns and a couple of bleeding elbows these shooters persisted and showed a grit and determination that I believe our Founders would be proud of.

I really do look forward to the next shoot at Wears Valley Ranch and I suspect we will have a new Orange Hat there to assist! Congratulations Brian! Huzzah!! Everyone should remember to dry fire at home and sign up for the next shoot, and bring 3-4 others with you!

Great work!

I grew up in the neighborhood of Sevierville.  I hope to make it down for an AS sometime!
