Title: Hornady reloading data - lookup help needed
Post by: Grindstone on August 07, 2014, 09:56:18 PM
Can somebody with the Hornady manual please look up:
8mm mauser
Hornady 196gr BTHP (#3237)
IMR 4350

Specifically I am interested in their start and max load as well as seating depths.

This is part of my long term project to find a load that matches the military sights out to 500m.

Please be sure to cross reference any load by looking it up in another brand/manufacturer reloading manual.

Here is one from the manufacturer of your powder of choice:

Yeah, what TSP said.  Hornady 8th Ed. does not list any BTHP options for the 8mm Mauser

I checked my Sierra and Lyman manuals as well, neither lists a 196gr bullet.  Lyman the closest is 220gr, Sierra has a 200gr HPBT, IMR-4350 45.4g=2000fps, 46.5gr=2100fps, 47.6gr=2200fps, 48.1gr=2250fps, 48.7gr=2300fps max load

OK thanks for the check. I compared among my other three manuals, and online and didn't get much data at all for this powder. TheSquirrelPatrol, your data is the closest I have seen yet, and it looks to be telling me I should try a different powder.  I think I will have to compromise on the BC and go with a lighter bullet to get the velocities up in the range of the original. Maybe I can pretend the meters marked on the sights are yards.
