Special Event for Catholic Home School Families
Attendance: 25 (11 Boys,ages 8-16, 8 Girls, ages 8-23 and 6 parents)
It was a privilege to present a one day Appleseed for Catholic Home School families from the Forsyth and western Guilford County areas of NC.
As anticipated, these families were a pleasure to host and their children, an encouragement for the hopes of our future.
The event was organized and promoted by one of the Dads, who became an Appleseed instructor early this year. The families know him as a fellow worshiper, parent and friend. Appleseed volunteers know him by his forum name, Moylan. Both groups appreciate his knowledge, enthusiasm, teaching ability and tireless energy!
Since most of their families were not gun owners, attendance was limited by the number of rifles that our instructor cadre could provide for their instruction. Thanks to the generosity of our volunteers, we were able to provide for everyone. Ammunition was not a problem thanks to Moylan's efforts. He was able to locate sources to supply this and future events.
We look forward to offering additional events for these home-school families as their calendars and range dates can be coordinated.
The ages and experience level of our students required a basic rifle familiarization to begin the day and hands-on firing line instruction as fundamentals were applied. Thankfully, 10 instructor and 2 Applecore volunteers made it possible to give each student the personal help needed to apply our techniques safely. We completed one AQT prior to ending the day.
Emphasis was placed on the providential gift that is our history, heritage and legacy. Still, everyone wished we had more time together. A single day is not enough to honor the sacrifices made by those who purchased our liberty with their lives, treasure and sacred honor!
Your comments and photos are most appreciated.
Some of the members from Carolina Shooters Club donated more than 3000 rounds for youth shooters at our events. All it took was one quick post, and I was really overwhelmed by their generosity. One man even sent me a box via UPS at his own expense! The people who made the donations go by the names soreshoulder, jakerson9, shooter, Diverdad and Cape Fear. There are some other folks who stepped up and offered some ammo for Charlotte events (I still haven't finished following up on this, and will do that soon). It's a great group of people there at CSC! Many thanks to all of them for their kindness.
The homeschool event itself was wonderful! A great group of people, and as Lawrence said, most of them were completely new to firearms. They were great listeners, though, and everyone seemed to learn a ton.
And Lawrence is far too kind in what he says about me...some of the other instructors, including Lawrence, deserve much more recognition for their work. Saltypaws and his two daughters had to pile into their vehicle at 6pm for something like a 3 hour drive home, after getting to Ramseur at 8am. Talk about a long day! And Sadman, Revere, Grathlong and Hushpuppy were in the same boat--yep, that's four instructors from the same family!--with a drive home of 1:45. By the way, it was Hushpuppy's first event as an orange hat, and she did great! She shot rifleman a few months ago, but had to wait til her 13th birthday to trade her blue hat for orange. Happy birthday! :-) I could go on (and those who know me will be surprised that I am not going to go on), but I'll leave it at that for now. Thanks again to everyone for a great event. I know the homeschool crew loved it.
This precious young lady is a member of a home school association that participated in a private Appleseed. This little girl had never shot a rifle before, she followed our instruction literally. When asked which target to shoot, an instructor told her to "shoot the 1 on 10. She proceeded to put 10 shots on the lane number as close to the 1 as possible. The best shooting I have ever seen from a beginner. We welcome the ARCH home schoolers back any time. Ramseur, NC, Aug.2, 2014 home school event. PROJECT APPLESEED NC FACEBOOK POST.
