Awesome event! If there were a theme for this event at the WAC, it would be "Shoot like a girl ..... if u can!"
It was the ladies who were the ones to beat, in-the-heat at the Wyoming Antelope Club. Sophia has been working toward becoming a Riflewoman since she was 10 years old and she made score at this event. It's been a long time since I was this excited about handing out a patch. Sophia is a favorite of the instructors for her unflinching grit and persistence, combined with sweet and polite demeanor. Alkeford, who is moving, was crushed when he found out he missed Sophia making score. Kudos young lady - u earned it.
Heather was determined to make score with her new bolt-gun and make score she did. Watching her work that bolt like greased lightning was a thing of beauty. Way to go girl!
And then there was Margo who shot 190 - her first event. The last thing she said to me on her way out was "I will get that patch". I hold no doubt ma'am, as u clearly have grit. Appleseeds in Florida in July is not for the faint of heart. Little Hannah and her pink rifle dressed up the line nicely and she did very well - hope to see her and her dad back at the next event.
The level of improvement was above normal at this event. Avi went from barely making the paper to groups and good scores on the AQT - all in a single weekend. He listened and persisted and improved in leaps and bounds - way to go sir!
Andy did very well, even with a side mounted sling. Doug started out all over the place and I will admit to wondering if he had vision issues, but danged if he didn't pick it up Sunday PM and begin hammering that AQT - qual'd as "Marksman" he did! Tim worked hard and we look forward to seeing him back - I know u can make it sir. Mateo sometimes outshoots his sister, which proves he can make it - just needs some dry fire at home. Stick to it and I'll be handing u a patch too!
All in all a great event and I am filled with hope for our future. Keep on Appleseeding!

^:)^ Thank you Appleseed participants for all the exceptional hard work on the firing line, everyone came with the motivation to learn the Skills and Hear the History.
Thank you parents for sharing your GREAT kids with us. Seeing them perform and work ethic in them must make you proud, they give me Hope for our Nation.
It does my country and heart good to see the exceptional caliber of Marksmanship coming from the ladies on the Project Appleseed firing-line.
The women at the events this year I have worked at have only been 20-25% of the line population but have earned 50% of Rifleman's scores.
This last event in Clearwater Fl, at The Wyoming Antelope Club showed us mere males what GRITS and Girl Power means.
All of the new riflemen were of the female persuasion and shot solid multiple qualifying scores.
One with a Box Stock Ruger 10/22 and the other with a peep sighted Savage bolt rifle.
You young American males need to take heed of this fact, get your butt's off the couch and get to a Florida Appleseed Project to learn the Skills and hear the History ASAP............
Unless, of course you don't mind hiding behind the womenfolk with the little children when bad things happen.
Congrats, Sophia, on a well earned patch (Twice!). Your persistence and grace is an inspiration to us all. You made us all proud.
Dwight
P.S. Everyone else did a fine job and showed much improvement over the weekend and Heather certainly showed us how to work a bolt rifle. Nice job!
Looks like this was a fantastic shoot and what a nice range. Huzzah folks! ^:)^
Hope to make it down for a visit sometime this year.
