Title: Piqua OH 03 - 04 May 2014
Post by: DGMilty on May 06, 2014, 08:14:46 AM
Had a great weekend with the states of OH, MI, and IN represented at the Piqua Appleseed!  Thanks, Kate and Mike for making the drive and sticking it out all weekend!!!

We had a few repeat Appleseeders, brothers Steve and David, as well as Haley too!  Gentlemen, if you can only make it one day when you come back, I think you would benefit more if it was on Sunday.  You two have the basics, and the first day is going to be slow for you.  We pick up the pace on Sunday and hone the skills we learned on Saturday.

Haley...good seeing you again!  Have dad keep working with you!  :)

Evan was one of the few who "stuck it out" all weekend.  Keep up the good work!  I'm sure that Del is proud of you as well!

We lost Tyler and Holly on Sunday, only because of their weekend commitments.  Two new shooters, you did a GREAT job!  Look forward to seeing you again real soon!

I had a great time working with the individual shooters and to the Instructors, The Buckeye Trapper, Shep, and Del, for doing such a great job.  Sorry that Coyote 217 couldn't make it, but family first!  (Congrats again!)  I'm sure that our younger Appleseed Blue Hat and Instructor will be able to make it out to an event soon.

As with everything else, the only way we are going to succeed is with practice and persistence.  I appreciate all the sacrifices you made to make it to the event this past weekend, and I look forward to seeing you again soon.

I had a great time this past weekend! I taught myself to shoot about 20 years ago, but had no formal training. When I saw Shep last weekend, he told me that he and my wife made arrangements for me to come to the Piqua Appleseed. Who was I to argue? So, I arrived early Saturday morning and was welcomed immediately. Cannot say what I like the most because...

1) The instructors were awesome, very education and just fun to hang around with.
2) Never did do good with history in school, but the background of the Revolutionary War was very educational for me.
3) The Natural Point of Aim was fascinating. Seeing the Buckeye Trapper demonstrate with the laser and with life fire on the star target was amazing.
4) The discussions on MOA, Windage, Elevation, finally made sense to me.

I changed my mind, I know what I like the best. First thing of the day, we had to shoot the red coats. I understand this is to set a baseline of where we are with experience. I was a 2/3rds through my target, nailing the 100y, 200y, and working on my 300y. Then it happened... it's hard to hit the target when your laughing because the Buckeye Trapper tells the shooter next to me, "Your shooting Mike's target". But, I regained my composure to nail the bucket shot!

The whole weekend was a blast. Thank you DGMilty, Shep, The Buckey Trapper, Del, and the other participants.

This will not be my only Appleseed.
