Title: Ramseur, NC - March 29-30, 2014
Post by: dond on April 02, 2014, 02:18:21 PM
The cold weather of the preceding RBC continued into the weekend AS, unfortunately. Nevertheless, 24 shooters showed up Saturday and 22 Sunday for an exciting weekend of marksmanship and history at the AS home range. After a concentration of instruction, most of the groups on the squares were extremely good. We weren't able to complete an AQT Saturday, but two Riflemen emerged on the first one Sunday. One of these, who had never shot a rifle before, had a 243. His later scores improved to 244 and 248. As an explanation for how he accomplished this remarkable feat, he replied, "I just listened". In a similar vein, a young shooter on Saturday, whose groups had been fairly large, accomplished a very good group. When asked how he had accomplished this feat, he too replied, "I listened". This is good advice for all shooters. Now if we could just get all shooters to follow it.

Before the weekend was over, seven shooters had Rifleman Patches and four OHs were accepted. Furthermore, those who had earned their Rifleman scores earlier in the day had gone to the KD range and one earned his KD Rifleman Patch. What a wonderful day.  ^:)^

Those are some phenomenal results. A very effective COF combined with a group of shooters with a teachable attitude yields some impressive results.

HUZZAH!

This was an incredible Appleseed with unbelievable results. It was great to meet DonD! He puts forth a very low round count event with better results than a lot of Appleseeds I have attended. Thank you to Don and your wife for traveling to NC for the entire week!

Thank you Dond for leading this RBC, I saw a lot of  motivated people leaving Sunday. I wish I could have popped in during the week  to hear more of the instruction. I worked with some good people on range one and saw the results of the lessons. Gary remember to hold the trigger to the rear and load the bipod.

You run at your student's speed and they are there to learn. My experience was always that time spent teaching, dryfiring and working on positions, trigger control, etc paid off more than just shooting.

This was my 2nd Appleseed but 1st with my son and I have to say it was a blast even for a retired weapons instructor for the USN. You all managed to teach my son all the things required to be a marksman in 2 days and I have been working with him for almost 2yrs. But anyway he did shot a very good group on stage 3 that was better than mine so that made me proud of him. I will shoot 1 more Appleseed and then start the IIT process. Thanks to Dond and the rest of the Range Cadre for the great weekend.

It was a great weekend.  I learned a lot from Don just by observing.

I've got a bunch of photos but I'm having trouble uploading them for some reason.  scuzzy is going to try and get them uploaded.  Not sure what's going on.  Could be my browser.

I was there with my Son Jeremy for the RBC and my Dad an x Marine who passed away a few years ago would be proud such an Organization and the people who are a part of it. My accolades go out to Don D, Patrick and Alan to name just a few and to all at the RBC those instruction and the those on the line as well who all went out of there way to educate this old guy, on what I was doing wrong. The history woven into the frame work of becoming a marksman makes one appreciate where we were as a fledging country striving for Independence and as Thomas Jefferson said :

"An educated citizenry is a vital requisite for our survival as a free people"

You come to an Appleseed you get a vital History lesson on our forefathers just regular working people and you learn to become a Rifleman.
I decided to answer the call and took on an Orange Hat and look foreword to meeting and working with all and build lasting friendships along the way
