I am considering assisting in the appleseed program.(not sure how yet) I am wondering aside from my time and gas, are there any dues or insurance requirements that will come up to bite me in the but latter down the road??
I want to avoid any surprise costs before I decide to invest my self emotionally into the program.
Commitment to the mission. Whatever it costs to effectively awaken the hearts and minds of your fellow Americans. That's it. It's basically free, unless you choose to monetarily support somehow, for example - a box of ammo or a sling swivel for a student here and there. Insurance is handled by national. RWVA membership is $20/yr. Welcome! Grab a bucket. ;-)
No dues or fees. Appleseed provides its own liability insurance, so no need to worry about that. We welcome the help of all Patriots of good will and do our best to make their contributions as easy and pleasant for them as we possibly can. In case you decide to add your efforts to those of us who have already made the commitment, I say, welcome to the family and godspeed!
thanks for the input, I'll be getting more info april 19 at watterman catching the 2nd half of the day of the shoot as an observer.
I'm looking for something worth while to do for a change and appleseed feels right i just have to eazy into it so it remains hard work yet fun and exciting and not simply hard work and not fun.
we will see how this year goes. the forum has provided a positive uplifting experience which only makes me want to do more appleseed and give more people the experience i've had at my first shoots.
fingers crossed hoping for a good year :)
Here's the deal, Turtle. Earn a Rifleman patch, accept an Orange Hat when it's offered, and go for it. You'll be glad you did. The Appleseed Project is without a doubt, one of the, if not THE most worthwhile venture you may ever undertake. Learn some 1775 history, and teach commitment to Liberty and Partiotism to your countrymen! It's a project where you can spend as much time as you feel comfortable with. I think Scoob put it very well, commitment to misson. It's very rewarding. What have you done for Liberty today?
I've done this 4 years in a row so far, earned my rifleman the 2nd year and re qualified every following year. last year (4th year) everything clicked and i was in the zone so I've been here at the forum scene november-ish and have been thinking long and hard about this.
from what everybody says I think, i think, I think . it's time to jump in and test the water.
an orange hat was offered to me I think it was from 2clicks down. I didn't take him up on it back then(2-3 yrs ago). sence then my admiration for the program has grown and I would like to see the program spread as well.
i think my mind has been made up for the last year and a half but i've failed to act on it.
thanks for the encouragement. and hopefully see some of you later on this year.
Come.
Learn.
Teach.
Save the nation.
I have a hat waiting for you.

I just started last year. When people ask me why I am involved I ask them if they are happy with the way things are going in this country right now. Usually the answer is no, so then I ask them what they are doing about it? If I knew of something better to do about it than appleseed I would be doing that.
Welcome aboard turtle!
Please feel free to contact me if I can possibly be of help.

Turtle, jump in, the water's fine. Take the hat. Time's awaste'n. You have the opportunity to work with some great cadre there in your state. I'm in Iowa and just drove down to Billings, Mo. to take part in a shoot this past weekend. Mutti from your state was there, along with Rifles N Reins, and Keenan, Mr. Blue Hat/Rifleman. Learn much from your states' RH's and OH's. They have much to offer. You're burnin' daylight, pilgrim!
Weighing the cost is wisdom.
Some of my Appleseed 'hidden' costs:
* I now own 7 .22 LTR's - and I have the least amount of trigger time on each of them; but somehow I have to clean them all
* KD brought a couple of .308's into my life
* Once or twice a week I hit the sporting goods store to see if any .22lr is in stock - in case a shooter at a 'seed needs it.
* Countless hours have been spent reading, studying, preparing and recovering
* I had no interest in flint locks - well I now own a 1st pattern Brown Bess musket and all the crap to shoot it
* 15 shoots last year so 30 days not spent on my own 'stuff'; burned up some vacation days to make a few of those happen
* I pay a local forum a quarterly fee for Appleseed to be a 'supporting vendor'
* Promotion events, rallies, libertyseeds, IBC, forum maintenance are all drains on my time
* I kept going to board meetings at my club to get Appleseed stuff on the calendar so they made me the XO - one more time commitment :slap:
To be fair; I wanted the travel trailer long before Appleseed - but I probably wouldn't be looking for Appleseed graphics to put on the side/back of it
Extra ammo cans, storage containers, organizers for targets & t-shirts, flag stand, sight tools & snap caps for guns I don't own, canopies, shooting mats, extra mags, loaner slings, laser pointer, timer, laminating - it can add up
All in all I can probably correlate somewhere around 8-10k invested in Appleseed (not counting the TT).
Heck - my first event as a shooter ran me $650 to get me, my FIL and daughter all outfitted for the event.
So what do I have to show for my efforts?
* My wife and two daughters all learned marksmanship (2 out of 3 have Rifleman badges & orange hats) through Appleseed
* There isn't a finer group of American's to spend time with than Appleseed instructors
* I can look John Adams in the eye and say 'I made good use of the Liberty you bought for me'
* I can look myself in the mirror and say 'I've fought the good fight'
* I've passed on what I know to countless people and it has driven me to learn even more
My life, my fortune and my sacred honor - the price of Liberty
QuoteMy life, my fortune and my sacred honor - the price of Liberty
Amen, Brother.
I've never tallied the cost. It might seem astronomical to some, a pittance to others, but all that I have spent thus far has purchased something that mere dollars never could- the ability to look myself in the mirror and be proud. Proud of the instructors I have helped learn the ropes, proud of the new shooter turned Rifleman, proud of the Americans who've taken the message of April 19th to heart, and are actively working within their communities to restore the ideals of Liberty and Freedom.
In short, while I may have paid a heavy price for my participation, the results have been priceless, and if I had to do it all over again, knowing everything that I do now, I would take that orange hat again in a heartbeat.
