Post by: TOMINCT on January 03, 2014, 02:44:09 PM
The first shoot of 2014 is being held January 11-12 at the Metacon gun club in Simsbury. The club has a covered firing line and hot food is to be available.

There is room for more shooters at this event.

Upcoming events should be listed here soon. http://appleseedinfo.org/search-states-display.php?qstate=CT&statename=Connecticut

I'm really looking forward to this one.  I'll be bringing a Mosin Nagant (I realize it's not the optimal but its what I have) It has a sling but with 'dog collar' attachments, not swivels like the M1.  Can I use this or must it be modified with swivels?

Also, how do people using a rifle like this do the AQT's requiring the clip to hold only 2 rounds?  Do they just load 2 individually or put 2 in the clip?  Asking so I can practice before the shoot.

Thanks much

Hi risk1994, glad to have you sign on. The M-N will do it but it's doing it the hard way.

If you can acquire or borrow a 22 it would behoove you to do so, along with a couple mags and ammo. Save the M-N for Sunday. Quite often an instructor will have a 22rf loaner available.

The sling as set up can work, or we could adapt a USGI web sling on the line.

No need to worry about 2 rounds per clip. Running a boltgun you will load with 5 unless told otherwise. 95% of the time it will be with 5, lesser amounts could be loaded individually. If you have stripper clips get used to prepping them correctly. There's a few good vids on youtube that will help immensely.

There are also some videos on firing rapid fire and you are welcome to try it also. If you have dummy rounds you can practice at home, if not I'd go to a range if using live ammo.

Thanks Tom.

Can I ask how you could modify the sling?  If I know I can set it up before-hand.   I've looked all over the internet for some way to get a web sling onto it without modifying the stock, but came up with nothing.

If you're using the USGI web sling I'd use one of the dog collars from the MN sling and have it be the front sling swivel.  Just set up the web sling thru the dog collar and attach to the forend. If you don't have  MN dog collar sling you could fudge it with a heavy zip tie also.

I've not tried it but I'm uncertain right now if the GI web sling is long enough to be used as a hasty sling, with both dog collars. When I get home I'll rig mine and see how it works. We can show you how to rig it at the event so no worries on that.

The MN sling should be adequate as a hasty sling, that I have tried. HTH, Tominct.
