We have 29 shooters signed up for our December event, three days before Christmas! Awesome! ^:)^
Target downloads and info on Appleseed-friendly activities at Chabot are here (http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=23542.0).
A mini-report from Day 1: We had 20 shooters on the line, and they came to play. We got through one AQT, in spite of it being the shortest day of the year, and two riflemen were revealed. High score is a 237 ^:)^ - We'll see what we can do tomorrow!
High score of the shoot: "Anthony 1" with a 238 on Sunday, just barely beating Saturday's high of 237.
Impressive!
"Devin" also earned his patch. Devin is one of 8 shooters who scored 210 or higher over the weekend.
For some reason, every picture I took of Shoot Boss Tim make him look angry. (He wasn't angry in person.)
Youngest shooter of the day was Caz, age 11.
A quicky report before I collapse: Five new riflemen were forged this weekend: Paul D, Anthony (#1) L, Eric, Chris, and Devin and three requalifed: David H, "Sunday Paul" and John G, just above. Well done to all, and there were quite a few more 'knocking on the door' when daylight, ammo and energy began to give out. Practice what you learned (dry practice is cheap and effective) and we'll see you again.
A more lengthy report and some pix when we've slept it off. $$-0
It was a fun 2 days... and my poor body is sore in places I forgot I had. There will be much practice of the prone position and seated position here at home. This was my first Appleseed, and shock of shocks I could not break 190 to save my life. My wife said "but honey, that makes you a Marksman" and I said "Nope, that makes me a cook". Well, I'm a happy a cook who got to spend two chilly days with good people having fun.
Congrats to all the new Riflemen, well done and well earned!! Thanks to Nero and his team for running a brisk and safe shoot.
Death to the time money!!!
OK, here we go:
The target line awaits, on the shortest day of the year.

We had 20 shooters on Saturday, most new to Appleseed. The time monkey was lurking, ready to take advantage of any fails, but shooters who come out in December are usually the most determined, and so this batch proved. They were focused, took instruction well, and helped us keep things moving along.
Down on the line

At lunch we heard some of our heritage, presented by yours truly and American Amazon. We left the Redcoats stranded in Concord as we returned to the line and some new positions.
Dueling demos. What's that the first steady hold factor?

And on into standing

The shadows were growing long, but with everyone kept moving - quickly! quickly! - we got in one AQT.

And found two rifleman amongst us. After telling the story of the 3rd strike in gathering dusk, we had awards:

Paul D came in with a 211, which may not sound too impressive until you hear that his stage 2 was a 20! The lesson: never give up. Too bad he was a Saturday only shooter, or would have certainly topped that. We'll see you again!
Returning Rifleman David H turned in a 237, setting a tough mark to beat. On Sunday he switched to his M1A, making some good sounds from the left side of the line.
Caz was our youth shooter for the weekend. If you've got answers, he's got questions! ;D He did well in prone, and persevered well in standing and transitions.

A new day and a new leader - Ken takes over as shoot-boss-in-training as we review Saturday's lesson, and get into the Grind.

How many Anthony's are there in this picture? We had four of that name on the line this weekend! That's Anthony #1 anchoring the left side of the line.

Remember Anthony? #1 indeed! That's a 238 he's holding there - best of the weekend! (The other Anthony's were all 'knocking on the door' as well.)
Christopher had the best and most appropriate hat of the day

An OD rifleman patch will make that into Christmas colors! He's in with a 220, and bunch of other qualifiers for wallpaper as well!
Eric also had a nice collection of targets, with his best a 230!
We also had new Rifleman Devin with a 213 (see the pic above), and requalifying scores from both 'Sunday Paul' (218 and several others) and John G (214) with his centerfire. Awesome job, everyone!
And one last award - the instructors' traditional Fabulous Footwear award goes to Leah!
