Title: IMR 4064 in stock!
Post by: Polaris on December 19, 2013, 10:33:25 PM
Grafs has IMR 4064 in stock in 8lb cans.  Also some other useful powders.  No 4895 or Varget yet, but you can fuel almost any 308/30-06 load with 4064 and I hear it works well with heavier 5.56 loads.  If you're out, get it while it's hot!

Works well with .223/5.56. I've used it with Hornady 55gr FMJ and Sierra 52 gr matchking. Only problem I've encountered is that when loading to anything greater than min, the case will overflow or be pretty close to it. I use 24.5 gr IMR 4064 with a Sierra Matchking 52 gr HPBT. Heavier bullets use less powder, so the problem will go away on its own with 69 gr or heavier. I only have access to a 100 yd range, so I don't know about accuracy at longer ranges, but at 100 yds it will print MOA with a target M16.

Still there!  I bought a lot of this last December when Varget went away as it is a good substitute (not quite interchangeable though) for that powder.

So far I've gotten good results in 7,62X54R, 7,5X55 Swiss, .308 win 150gr hunting load and 30-06 M1Garand.  Just tested a very efficient (becoming an increasing concern with escalating prices) 123 gr 6.5X55 Swedish load yesterday and it was lights out with 37 and 38 gr.

I also load .308 Win. I agree with you; works very good. I was looking for a powder to simplify my logistics (that will work well with all the calibers I own). 4064 fills the need. There might be better choices, but I sure like using one powder for all my rifle reloading needs; ditto for bullets.
By the way, I use Bullseye for all my handgun calibers. Also works fine.

That was my motivation for stocking the magazine with 4064.  Was going to be Varget, but couldn't get that.  I now only carry 4064 (most of my rifle loads), 4350 (the .280 rem gets this one in addition to heavy bullet X54r) and HS-6 for the 9mm.  I still need to carry a fast shotgun powder for trap loads, but that one's not fussy.  Any bulky powder in the Red-Dot to Clays range works.

IMR is sold out.  They still have AA 4064 and another AA that appears to be their answer to 4895.  Don't have any experience with either though.  Locally (MN) Cabelas Rogers has a good stock of various powder and primers as does Gun Stop in Minnetonka and Ammocraft in Hopkins.
