Title: Palm Bay FL Dec. 7-8
Post by: malabar on December 09, 2013, 10:17:28 PM
What a blast!  We had 34 shooters sign up for this shoot -- 25 have never been to an Appleseed before and eight were under 16. Many had never fired a gun before. They were an enthusiastic and patriotic crowd.

Douglas3447 and the everpresent Tomblin drove 100 miles to provide support and we deeply appreciate it.

It was warm enough -- mid-80s -- and sunny enough that we had to worry about folks staying hydrated, something we don't normally get too concerned about in December.

Time was the monkey on our backs as more than half of the shooters were significantly late arrivals Saturday morning. And with all the new shooters, we lost huge amounts of time dealing with gear issues.  We loaned out numerous slings and other pieces of gear.

We had a member of a local blackpowder club come out and demonstrate the proper firing of a long rifle, which was a blast, so to speak.

We had three folks shoot the rifleman's score -- and all three were first-timers.  Outstanding work guys!

The youngest was 9-year-old Raines, who shot from a rest as a safety aid.  William Diamond would be proud.

We had a special last course of fire -- the retiring of the orange hat of The Liberty-loving NomadicHillBilly.  He looks much better in that red hat.

And we welcomed a new blue hat -- HeidiHeidi's husband, Chris.

This was my second venture as SBIT under the tutelage of the great patriot Bill O Rites, and despite the challenges, it was quite smooth.

It was more like 173 miles according to my little lady in the box. A trip well worth making.

I want to thank HeidiHeidi and Chris again for providing me and my girls a place to stay.

As always I had a great weekend and met a lot of good Americans.

Thanks, douglas34474, for helping me understand the necessity of a good cheek weld and doing a field-expedient mod to my running boar barreled 10/22!  This mod greatly helped me improve my group sizes in prone, sitting, and standing! A "chin weld" just doesn't work! O0

BTW, I called MidwayUSA today, and my back ordered stock that I ordered in mid-October with a promised ship date before Halloween may instead ship by New Year's.  But, I now have the knowledge of getting the comb height right when my thumbhole stock arrives to get a good cheek weld thanks to your help!

As one of the attendees, it was a great event. It was my second appleseed and I brought a friend who was one of the three who made Rifleman. Lots of excellent help from the staff, they did a great job with all the attendees.  Absolutely great event!   Pass the word!

Congrats NomadicHillBilly on the Red Hat. Well deserved Sir!

Guntuckian, still shooting with irons or did you switch to a scope?

Ah! looks like I missed a good one! I will never sign up for a shoot during my On-Call weekends... Mr Murphy really hates me...
