This is just a place holder for the AAR to follow. Just in case folks want to start posting pictures or comments on the great weekend at N. Lawrence.  AAR should be up later tonight.

All around great shoot this weekend! The wind made it a little tricky to hear the line commands, but Corvette solved that problem by making sure all us instructors were spread out across the entire line echoing the commands. Full line of shooters, 4 new Rifleman, even two kids braved the chilly wind and blowing rain. The heritage told by Corvette even had club members that were not a part of the AS event listening.  :)  Here are a few pics to commemorate the weekend. :)

Wow, what a great Appleseed at the North Lawrence Fish and Game Club.  We had 18 shooters on Saturday morning which started with overcast skies.  I must say, in all my Appleseed experiences, I have never seen a better set of signs to direct our shooters to the range.  The entrance to our range was about an eighth of a mile away from the main club house and Ladyshot had prepared the coolest set of signs to direct our shooters to the correct range.  At the Club House, she had a sign saying "Appleseed Keep going".  On the back side, she had "If you are going to Appleseed, Turn around".  At the entrance to the range, the sign said, "Appleseed, Almost There", and on the curve in the road on the way back to the range she had a sign "Appleseed, The fun is about to start".  Best directional signage ever.   ^:)^

It was a special group of shooters and very family focused.  We had a lot of Alarm Listers and Drummer Boys.  A number of shooters were 'seasoned" citizens like me (50+) combined with some young ones that would have been Drummer boys in 1775. We had father/sons, mother/sons, husband/wives and the "Kral clan" which was a group of five folks that came together.

One of the shooters was a 9yr old brought by his mother who did not plan on shooting.  Of course we worked on her to shoot with her son.  She was initially reluctant but a club member was at our range when we were working on her and he offered to donate her fee so she could shoot with her son.   Well that did it. GabeC had a rifle she could use and she had no choice but to join her son on the line.

The welcome and safety brief was delivered which was followed by bringing rifles to the line. Before we knew it, the morning redcoat was shot and we were deep into the instructions.  Birdman took the lead instructing on steady hold factors in prone, the six steps and NPOA.  Sighters were shot, trigger control drills were completed and sights were adjusted.  It took a fair amount of time in the morning to sort out equipment but before we knew it, it was lunch time.  We relocated to the club house were the First Strike was presented.  It was interesting that a number of club members joined the audience and they were interested in talking about a Liberty Seed based on what they heard.

It had started to rain shortly before we broke for lunch and it was still raining when we returned. It did not deter our intrepid shooters who worked hard at digesting the steady hold factors for the sitting and off-hand positions.  Transitions instructions were presented and we ended the day with a practice AQT, a final red-coat and the Second and Third Strikes with a call to action.

Sunday dawned bright but windy.  After confirming zeros, we completed several drills and started the AQT grind.  The shooters were totally into working on their skills and it showed in their performance.

At lunch (again up at the clubhouse) , I had just started the KD lecture when one of shooter's lunch order was delivered.  It totally stopped my presentation.  It was this beautiful dish.  Really, its a heart attack on a plate.  It was toast, covered by two fried eggs, potatoes, bacon, and sausage gravy. I made such a fuss over my love of sausage gravy that GabeC surprised me with an order that was delivered as I was finishing the KD presentation.  I ate this marvelous dish as we returned to the range to continue our event.  THANK YOU GabeC, it was GREAT!!!  Slim (another Ohio Shoot Boss that appreciates sausage gravy), you really need to shoot boss the next event at North Lawrence so you can experience this dish.  It is right down your alley.   >:D

We made FOUR new Riflemen over the course of Sunday.  David was first with a 222 which he backed up with a 217.  Doug was next with a 235, Emery followed with a 221 and Phil joined the Riflemen team with a 213.  Great work all around. Birdman joined the line for an AQT showing the entire line that he practices what he preaches by shooting a 246 with a borrowed Ruger 10/22 and open sights.  Huzzah Birdman.     We are in awe at your skills.

We completed several more AQT's Sunday afternoon and shot a Sunday afternoon red-coat.  The performance on that red-coat was just amazing.  Virtually the entire line was competent at 100 yds and half were competent out to 300 yds.  A third at 400 yds and we had three head shots and one clean Red-Coat.  What a great performance.  The history of the M1 Garand and an introduction to CMP was presented before we ended the day giving folks a chance to fire the historic M1 at distances out to 200 yards.

A final call to action was given and the weekend came to a close.  What a great shoot.  Our shooters showed dedication and a learning attitude all weekend and it was my pleasure and honor to shoot boss this event. My thanks to all who attended.

Finally, my deep thanks to Birdman, GabeC, Ladyshot, LindaFromAppleCreek and Lantern for helping me with this event.  Your commitment to providing our shooters with a safe and informative shoot made the difference this weekend.  Thank you for your support this weekend and your commitment to Appleseed.  With support of  quality instructors like you all, how can we help but have a great shoot.

Thank you shooters for making this event extremely enjoyable. It is folks like you that give me hope for this country. I hope something sparked inside you after hearing from Corvette the REAL story of April 19, 1775.
Many thanks to Corvette, LindaFromApplecreek, GabeC, Ladyshot, and Lantern. Thank you to the North Lawrence club for allowing us access and the great food. I truly believe this is one of the best ranges we have in Ohio.

Hey Corvette, the Ruger I used definitely had a scope on it - at my age, I don't think I could even SEE a Ruger front sight much less focus on it. A Garand front sight though, is way out there on the end of that long barrel....that I can still see.
Anyway, thanks to all again and make sure you shooters get to another Appleseed shoot...and bring lots of folks with you.
Off to work now....(but rather be shooting!)
