In honor of the 50th anniversary of the 10/22 next year, Ruger is holding a design contest. I'm thinking that the best 10/22 they could make would be an factory made Appleseed LTR.
Check this out and then design the perfect Appleseed 10/22 for submission.

I'm sending in adult lenght stock, swivel stud, Tech sights and sling.
LTR design submitted including a plea for Ruger to get on the Appleseed bandwagon..

You beat me to it O0
Apparently the designs will be accessed based on whether Ruger can build it or not and then submitted to the fans to vote on. We have a chance to get an LTR into the running if everyone in AS votes on just ONE of them.
Is finally putting a last shoot hold open on the rifle a possibility?
Wouldn't a last shoot hold open feature require redesigned magazines?
To go with the Tech or Nodak aperture sight, the comb needs to be higher as well to get a proper cheek weld with the taller sight.
How about a stock design along the lines of the Ruger American? Interchangable length and comb height.
I submitted the SteelThunderBolt
10/22 receiver and trigger guard
Whistle Pig aluminum/steel lined, fluted, compensated 18" barrel, Bentz chamber
Power Custom V-block barrel attachment
Volquartsen Exact Edge extractor
Power Custom titanium firing pin
Volquartsen extended charging handle
Volquartsen target hammer, sear and springs
Volquartsen target trigger
Volquartsen extended head safety
Volquartsen bolt buffer
Power Custom extended magazine release
Power Custom auto bolt release
EGW extended picatinny scope mount
Vortex 2-7X optic with Butler Creek flip up caps
Weaver low rings
Boyds "Tacticool" stock - free floated, finished with epoxy-coating,Treadtex on the forearm and wrist area
Kydex adjustable cheek piece (not shown in picture - similar to a Karsten's)
Uncle Mikes swivel studs and swivels
GI web sling
Can also easily have NoDak sights
Here is the one I submitted and the one to vote for:
Basically it is a stainless using a distributor exclusive from AcuSport which has a 18" threaded barrel (or a cut down 16" bbl for the compact version). It includes the mud guard (to protect the muzzle/crown from dirt, cement etc while in prone. And of course the threaded barrel allows the use of any other kind of muzzle device.
Peep and post sights are off a Mini 14/30 in order to utilize existing Ruger design. Though Tech Sights or the Nodak rear with rail is a preferred option.
A pictinny rail is added for optic mounting.
Stock is directly from the American Rimfire and gives the option of standard or compact, iron or optic sights and a sling
Auto bolt release is the only customization added.
Here is my cut and paste mock up...The idea is to give them something they can actually build. And yeah, the flash hider is hideous but that's what Ruger offers and it can be swapped out.

Mac,
I like your rifle, just need to put in a better trigger job is all I see that it needs.
Great job.
Cory
Yep that is it Mac. With a 3.5# trigger for CMP sportster. How picky do you think they will let us get?
Somehow I just don't see Ruger doing a production run with trigger components from someone else and I don't see them putting a light trigger on the 10/22 for liability reasons. If they could come up with adjustable trigger like on their American Rimfire bolt action that might work but those are two completely different trigger systems.
My goal was to give them something they could and would make and market. I just don't see them putting out a full blown custom that people would buy.
The other thing they might say is that even if it doesn't win the contest they might see some value in producing something similar if they can use all Ruger components and ideas.

Great work on your design.
I sent in a similar idea for LTR on a wood stock. In my write up suggested a Ruger 10/22 American stock for the semi-auto 10/22. The biggest difference in overall design concept between yours and mine is the picatinny rail is extended past the forend for better eye relief in prone, and the iron sights are are slightly higher to allow co-witness with a red dot. I also added a T3 mag release to let you keep your trigger hand in position during mag changes.

Apparently not anymore: http://cstmtech.com/10-22bs2g/
They claim it works with stock 10/22 mags, including the BX25 extended mags. Of course, it looks like this requires a modified bolt instead and the kit totals $175...

Good points. I like the sight and rail on yours better than mine and was what I was trying to go for but just couldn't come up with the way to do it on my mock up. I just couldn't find an example of it to paste onto my model so didn't suggest it, though I wish I had. I like the mag release as well but just don't think Ruger would go for it. They kind of have a "wasn't invented here" syndrome.
Lets hope that enough people submit an LTR style rifle to make Ruger think there is a market for them and they will pick one those designs. I don't really care whose LTR it is as long as it is one.
Everybody here should submit a LTR design.

Agreed, every Appleseeder should submit a LTR.
Besides it would be nice if one of our own Appleseeder's LTR designs won. Great PR for Project Appleseed and a nice $5000 dollar package for the winner.
Mac66,
Like the concept, I'd add drilled for a Williams Foolproof rear peep as well. Ruger already uses Williams sights.
Ruger's website is now posting a slide show of the entries. The photos are kind of hard to see but if you go to this link http://ruger.com/micros/1022_50/getRandomEntry.php?ajax=n and shrink the size (ctrl/ scroll wheel) and hit F5 to refresh you can look at the whole photo and click through them all.
..:.. Whoo Hoo Mac66 ..:.. Congratulations Dude. Your design made the top 10 in the Ruger 10/22 50th Anniversary Design Contest. Now all you Appleseeder's need to support one of our own and VOTE.
I'm glad I learned to how to search a forum before posting a new thread. I was just about to post a link to the Ruger voting page with a special nod to those rifles that just seemed tailor-made to adapt to Appleseed, only to see the Project mentioned by the designer.
And lo and behold, all the info (and more!) was already here.
Guess I'd do my part to bump it to the top, then!
It's up to number 5. Let's keep this going.

Vote NOW, vote every day! Beat out those take-downs, the race gun, and the AK10/22!
Nice design Mac66 - very practical re-use of existing parts. Ruger should be able to easily convert existing tooling for the manufacturing process as well.
Thanks all. I am shocked
Yes, it is starting to climb. Huzzah!
just voted
it's in a 3-way tie for 3rd place
unfortunately, the current 1st and 2nd have 19 and 17 per cent vs 10 per cent
time to mobilize the troops
Thanks for all the support. Even if I don't win the grand prize I already won a firearms of my choice from Ruger ^:)^ ..:..
Voted!
It is amazing some of the designs still utilize no sling swivel studs and still retain that worthless curved butt plate. :-[
just voted again
he's up to 11%, breaking away from the 10% pack
#s 1 and 2 still ahead at 17 and 15%
can he close the gap?
Nice work Mac66. Rooting for you.
M1bzrk
Gaining - up to 13% now versus 15% and 18%. It's interesting that the top two seem to be almost identical concepts, for a combined 34% of the total vote.
now 14%, 4% from the top
seems like momentum is building
Thanks for all the support guys.
One percentage point away from tying for second.
Make sure all of you are posting this to your state Appleseed Facebook pages.
I've got several guys on other forums to vote everyday.
It's a shame that the design is a 'restricted assault weapon" in NY. And the federal judge in the Western District of NY refuses to set a court date to hear the plaintiffs in the lawsuit to have the SAFE Act overturned, so we're probably looking at a long-term problem here, not to mention the precedent that's being set for other anti-liberty state governments to follow.
2nd place! Keep voting! ^:)^

Been voting everyday! A DOM, yes sir, liberties lost are difficult to get back. Those little chips they slowly sneak in eventually become huge chunks. Some condemn us when we pitch a fit over what they consider little "stuff" or what they consider "common sense". As Barney Fife used to say, "nip it in the bud". Here was our little local battle a couple years ago as an example of what can be done...O.L.

Voted yesterday and today. It's at 17%. 2nd place to the takedown rifle, which has 18%. Very close. I hope it wins.
Wow! Efforts are paying off. Mac66 up to 24%! Got to keep it up for the rest of the week.
:) Keep pouring it on. Looking good.
Gary, is now in First Place with 24%
HUZZAH, Huzzah, Huzzah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One vote from me and one from Mrs. ShadowMan each day. Hope you win, Mac. Great concept!
..We are not just voting for a concept rifle, but to spread an idea. Back in England in 1775 they said that the Colonists did not fight fair, that their style of war was uncivilized and not gentelman like. Remember the Colonists were fighting for way more than the Lobsterjackets could even understand..
.....Strength & Honor........Josey Wales........
Well said, Josey Wales.
Mac's in the lead at 23%! Whoo-hooo!!! ;D Closest competitor is at 19%... and Robert in Vermont's M1 carbine conversion, which would also make a nice LTR, is walking away with the "Best of the Rest" category at 53%. If we can just maintain momentum until the contest ends on Friday...! O0
For all of you readers who have their forum set up to read the last first.

Just saw the good news on the contest site. Congratulations, mac66! O0 Job well done!
Congrats Mac66,
I can't wait to see how the final product hit the shelves! I hope you'll be getting an all expense paid trip to SHOT Show to show off your design ;) Also have fun with your well deserved rewards!
