Instructors and IITs in the NW Region,
Have you been to an instructor boot camp (IBC)? If not, would you be interested in attending one? Reply to this thread if you are interested in two days of Project Appleseed awesomeness.
We had two IBCs in the region earlier this year - Jan 19-20 @ Battle Ground, WA and Mar 16-17 @ Great Falls, MT. I attended the Battle Ground IBC, it was my first, and it was very informative. We had instructors come all the way from southern California to attend that event.

I'm pretty sure I could use one! ~~:)
yes, I want to go but give me at least 4-5 weeks heads up to get time off from work. ~~:) ~~:) ~~:)
I'm always up for hanging out with you guys ~~:) ~~:) ~~:) ~~:) ~~:) ~~:)
I'd be interested. Do you have a general timeframe in mind? I probably won't be free until November, especially since it'll probably involve a bit of travel.
You looking at MT or on the coast?

We don't have a definite place or time yet - perhaps southern Idaho, wherever the most interest and need is.
Concerning the time, it takes a month or two to put one of these together. No range needed, just a classroom and places for some Appleseed IITs and instructors to stay.

Any possibility we can make this a 3 day event and do some KD qualifications either before or after?
For anyone on the fence about going, I went to an IBC with DrJohn (our mentor in the Georgia program) this past spring.
It was the best thing I could do in my personal growth as an instructor. It is valuable to:
1. Build and reinforcing good habits.
2. Given a low-threat environment to practice speaking in front of folks.
3. Rehearse teaching the fundamentals (over and over) in small groups. Builds confidence.
4. Brush up on manual changes/updates since you last studied it.
5. Hanging out with great people and learning from each other's shared experiences.
You don't need to be an Orange Hat to get something out of an IBC. I went as a Red Hat and got lots out of the weekend. :)
Hello ShadowMan,
I would be interested in attending an IBC if it could be scheduled in Sept or Oct of 2013. Other than those dates I would not be able to attend again until Jan-Feb of 2014.

ALWAYS!!! Even if you've been to one, there's so much to learn ;) I attended the GF IBC and would definitely try to attend another one if all the stars aligned... ;)
Can I come? :)

I'd do another one!
I like the idea of a 3-day IBC with a little KD qualification thrown in... I could probably make time for that, depending on when and where it is. Keep us posted!
We have had IBCs in Washington (Portland metro area), Montana, and Northern Idaho. It seems like we could use one in Southern Idaho. Does an instructor in that area know of a place we could meet for the IBC? I could get the building in Battle Ground, WA again, but I think it would be better to have an IBC where there is a need. Or should we do both?
Thoughts?
ShadowMan
Time to move forward and take some action. I am thinking we should do two IBCs in early 2014 (when it is cold and icy). One IBC at Battle Ground, WA serving western Washington and Oregon. Another IBC in southern or eastern Idaho serving Idaho, western Montana, and eastern Washington/Oregon.
Please reply to this thread indicating which IBC you would like to attend and the weekends you are available.
I will work on logistics for the Battle Ground IBC. Do we have another volunteer who will put together the other one?
Thanks,
ShadowMan
I'd definitely be interested in an IBC in Battle Ground. My schedule for the rest of the year isn't set yet, but typically I'm not available the first weekends of November and December.
Depending on when it is, I could probably do the one for Western MT/ID.
We have had offers from two ranges in Central(ish) SE Idaho: Blackfoot and Rexburg.
Two nice clubhouses, Idaho Falls is about 30 minutes away either spot.
Convenient for the northern Utah folks as well.

Not terribly inconvenient for SW Idaho folks either... all two of us. :P If it's after the first of the year, I'm pretty sure I can get over that way, maybe even for a 3-day'r if it goes that way.

You might get another southern Californian (me) if you have it there - I can get free lodging at my offspring's who is a tad involved in AS (Stuart) ;) Only a 900 mile drive!

Blackfoot works well as long as it's not winter. The water is shut off from November until spring arrives. If we don't need water, it would work just fine, but water is kinda nice to have. ;)
Rexburg is open year round, if I remember correctly.

Not in stone, but we likely have locations nailed down. There will IBCs at the first of the year in 2014 in Battle Ground, Washington and at a range in southeast Idaho (Stuart knows the location). The range in Idaho is very supportive of Project Appleseed and we will get to use the clubhouse for instruction.
Specific dates haven't been decided yet. I will post potential dates for the Battle Ground IBC soon.
Please stay tuned...

OK, we're putting together plans for SE Idaho in January or February. We have a couple of options:
1. Saturday-Sunday
2. Friday-Saturday
3. Friday-Sunday with Sunday being an instructor-only KD day. Yes, it will be cold and probably windy, but at least there won't be dust blowing in your face! (Note: I'd need to find out if the pits are usable during Jan/Feb, but if there is interest, I can see if it's an option.)
My preference is for Friday-Saturday, but I'm biased because I prefer to be in church on Sunday. I'd be happy to support any of the above options, though.
Make your opinion known!
My preference order is 3-1-2, but I'm completely flexible if I have a couple months notice.
Alright, I know it's sort of short notice for those that would be coming from farther away, but we now have the IBC scheduled for SE Idaho! ^:)^
When: January 25-26, 2014
Where: Unified Sportsman's Club, Rexburg, ID
The Event Information Page is at http://appleseedinfo.org/search-states-location.php?locationid=216&id_event=2384
Note that for this event, camping is available in the clubhouse, with far more amenities that you would expect for a gun club.
Sign up through Eventbrite if you are planning on coming. Any questions? Ask away.
I'd love to attend and learn more to make me a better instructor. I have been to one as an orange hat. I highly recommend it. Unfortunately I can't make this one so I'll stay tuned.
I attended one if these and they are well worth it. So much expierence in one place. I hope to attend another one soon.
