Bend of the River Conservation Club has been a great supporter of Appleseed and we had the chance to give a little back on August 17 at the BORCC Annual Member Picnic.
On Saturday morning, Appleseed had one of the pistol bays (along with Basic Pistol, Basic Rifle, Cowboy Action Shooting, IDPA, 3-Gun, .50 BMG Barretts in the other bays) where we held 4 mini "Taste of Appleseed" sessions. In 30 minute relays, we ran through Safety Rules, unassisted 5-shots at a 4MOA square, loop sling and prone steady hold factors and 13 rounds at a Redcoat target.
In all, we 34 students come through our bay, with many more onlookers and listeners to the instruction and stories. Some of the highlights of the morning:
- Lots of smiles and "oh, I've never shot with a sling before. That really works!"
- Our 6 Chinese shooters who had never handled a firearm before...and are now converts to how much fun shooting is!
- Our husband and wife couple who confounded this instructor with how well they shot...until I found out they had been to an Appleseed over the July 4th weekend
- One of our shooters cleaning the Redcoat...and being very interested in the program
- Lots of interest in attending the October event at BORCC
My thanks to everyone who came out and my instructor corps -- TreadCarefully, Oz, Zazzles...and pitmaster who set the whole thing up.

I had a great time working with all of you!
Zazzles
My highlight was watching you shoot the .50 caliber. How was it for you?
