What would be a good after market sight for a Ruger LR-22... I have heard that the Tech-Sights are great... but they have many options for this riffle, thank you, we would like to get some before my husband goes to Appleseed in October!
P2,
Suspect will receive 50 replies touting Tech Sights for 10-22 - and they are way to go for iron sights, hands down.
For 'scopes, suggest Simmons .22Mag AO 3-9x (I believe) 32mm, available for about $55 (and include rings, saving money) from Natchez Shooters' Supply. Gun Tests magazine froze-used as hammer-submerged in water, with no damage to scope. Certainly wiser/more frugal than spending hundreds of dollars - which can then be used for...ammunition, the Marlin Appleseed 795 when it finally arrives, and range membership...

Tech sights are the way to go. If your eyes are bad then use a cheap scope. any model of the tech sights will work fine. http://www.tech-sights.com/

+1 on the Tech Sights. If you get a scope, I suggest you send a few dollars more and get a four power centerfire scope. I really like my Nikon which I picked up for less than $90.00. The better scope will serve you better on the line when its raining and wet and resists fogging unlike many less expensive rimfire scopes. I really like the Weaver rings and base system for AS. Unlike virtually every other ring/base system, the rings will stay in place even after sustained firing. Get a set of "low" rings so that you do not have a problem getting a good cheek weld. The foregoing are the hard learned lessons I learned after numerous mistakes.

+1 on Simmons...I've found the new breed of "cheap" scopes to be pretty good. I have their 4X rimfire scopes on several rifles.
If you get a 3-9X, I'd suggest welding the magnification adjustment knob at 3 or 4X (ok, I'm kidding). The only thing I don't like about variables is shooters (new and experienced alike) have a tendency to crank it all the way up to 9X because they think it will make them shoot better.
Then they get frustrated with 1) seeing the sight picture shake and 2) chasing their bullet holes around.
For that reason, I like a low powered scope...between 2X and 4X. Just enough to see the target clearly, doesn't really "magnify" the natural wobble and less likely to see where you are hitting.
On my personal "SteelThunderBolt" rifle, I have a Vortex rimfire 2-7X. It never gets turned past 4 X until the string is done and I want to take a peek at how I shot.

Oops, double post
Tech-sights +1
Nodak Spud +2. Ruger 10/22 only, more $, but worth it IMHO. YMMV.

Spit, how many MOA does the Nodak front sight cover?....O.L.
On a 20" barrel, and this is just eyeballing it on our squares target.... the .050 is a little over 4 moa to my eyes.
Since all the guts on the sight are true A1, I ordered a rear aperture that'll take a hooded sight. .42 is what I have in it. Added a +.5 Bob Jones lens and now I can see the front sight clearly again.

Just go with the standard TS100 tech-sights - They're the cheapest/simplest of the tech-sight line and will perform more than adequately for anything we do at an Appleseed.
