After installing a marbles bullseye rear sight on my Henry .22, I had a moment of inspiration and realized a .44 casing would make a perfect insert. I shortened the casing a little to clear the elevator ramp and cut a slit in the bottom to fit over the inner ring post. Can't get much more cowboy than that. ~~:) (Front sight is a Lyman globe sight btw).
Thanks I Needed that!
You probably want to paint it black to cut down on reflection.
The closer that you can get the sight to your eye, the easier you will find sight alignment. It can work where it is but you will need to be very careful when aligning your sights. You will also need to work harder to keep the front the point of focus.
All of that said I like the implementation, particularly the aperature front sight. Great Job.
I may end up putting a skinner peep sight on it but they cost like 100 bucks. This is still a big improvement over the stock sights by far and the rifle is damn near a tack driver straight out of the box.
