I just purchased the $35 bayonet at CMP. The stud is larger than the hole in my gas plug, and does not allow the lock to engage. What's up with that?

It looks like I could machine out the gas plug to fit. The hole is about .260" and the stud is .280".
Should I start drilling?

Contact the CMP first. They may be able to exchange the bayonet for you.
