Title: Question 1 of 2: Availability of Marlin/Appleseed 795 LTR?
Post by: Viator on July 14, 2013, 09:53:24 PM
Gentlemen, and any Ladies who happen to be on the Forum, when I click the link on the Marlin/Appleseed LTR page (http://www.appleseedinfo.org/ltr-marlin.html) it takes me to http://www.galleryofguns.com/genie/Default.aspx?item=70677. There I find the notice:

Item # 70677
MSRP: $299.00
Number Available: 0
Video: (No Video)
This item is currently out of stock.
Due to unprecedented demand,
the Stock Watch feature
has been temporarily suspended.

... which appears to roughly translate, "we don't have any, and we aren't going to tell you when we get any more in."  :wb: Can anyone provide any additional information or elaboration on when what looks to be a very excellent out-of-the-box LTR will once again be available?

Many thanks,

Tom

They haven't been built and released yet. I'm sure that someone will correct me if I have that wrong.

They haven't rolled off the line yet.  If you need a trainer now I read in another thread that Dunhams has 795s on special this week.

I think it is very poor form for Marlin to announce this model and then delay so long in producing it. When Microsoft does this, they call it "vaporware".

Yes, it would seem that the marketing folks got too far ahead of the production engineering folks.  My concern is that people will get tired of waiting and either buy other rifles, or buy stock 795's on sale (such as at Dunhams) and be done with it.  Then, when Marlin finally does come out with the LTR, sales will be very sluggish, and some in corporate will say "see, we tried to tell you that there is no market for this Appleseed stuff".  And that will be that, not only for our relationship with Marlin, but also for other budding and potential industry partners who get wind of it.  I hope this is not the case.

The issue at hand is not Marlin.  Marlin is 100% behind the project.  A better evaluation of why it is not on the market can be done by asking how your gun shops and sporting goods stores get their stock.  If you go to Dunhams and buy a Remington 700 it was not purchased by Dunhams from Remington Arms, it was probably purchased through a wholesaler like Accusport, Davidsons, or Sports South.  For you to find this rifle in the stores, first the manufacturer must complete their pending orders (which are significant, if you have a conversation with John Fink, the product manager for Remington Arms, you will walk away uttering the word "staggering".  I did, it is truly staggering when you have someone walk you through the logistics they are faced with on that scale.)  One must understand that arms and ammunition manufacturers are operating at 120% and have been for months on end.  It is, in the words of ATK's Conservation programs direction (I believe his name was Bronson), "These are really weird times."

No, this rifle isn't on the shelves now, but everyone should know that it is NOT because Marlin isn't on board.  Marlin believes hard in the value of this product, Mr. Fink wants to have a good relationship with Appleseed, but they are a business and to a great extent serve their wholesalers because that is their access to their markets.

If you want to see this rifle sooner, you need to find your local retailer and put pressure on them to demand it from their wholesaler.  In fact, we all should.  The guy that is local to the Bedford Contingent is ready to place an order for them in the hundreds.  I know of a store in Bloomington, IN that wants to place an order for dozens.  We need a lot more retailers placing orders like that to convince a wholesaler to prioritize this project when they can make their money on better known items.  In some ways we have taken this as far as we can (to the guy that pulls the trigger on manufacturing) but in other ways we have more 7th Stepping to do.  I'm up for it.

In the meanwhile, there doesn't seem to be a shortage of Ruger 10/22's available for purchase.

Well, I don't now about that.  demand is so high at Ruger that they cancelled their instructor purchase program for the first time in history.  They were going to "reevaluate" the situation in June; now they are saying September.

To clarify one thing: The waiting list option is disable on ALL out of stock firearms on the Gallery of Guns site - it's not just for the LTR.  My guess is this an online form of something I heard from a local gun shop that had given up taking waiting list names:  The customers are so active right now in hunting out sources of supply on their own that the waiting list is mostly worthless by the time stock does arrive.

Would contacting wholesalers via their webpages asking when the rifle will be available help out? I"m not familiar with the wholesalers to contact. Any links to some contacts. I know several AS participants who would inquire via that method.

My gun club raffles off a gun at every club meeting. Our FFL is waiting to get us one. We would raffle one off within 2 months of every Appleseed we host. Last month we raffled a choice of a Ruger 10/22 w/laser and a Remington. I tossed in a complimentary AS registration and ammo for someone to attend with the rifle.

I would like to remind everyone that before you start pointing fingers at who you believe is at fault for the LTR not being available that there are Marlin employees on this forum. In fact the head engineer in the plant that will be building the LTR is a Appleseed instructor. Along with that I know for a fact there are certain other Marlin employees that come on here to "check" on us.

If you are convinced you know who is to blame on production delays make sure you know every player, company, detail, and nuance of this entire project before naming names.

The latest update I have from Mr Fink is that the first production run is scheduled for first week of Oct. Davidsons should have them shortly after that.

The Marlin LTR is officially under production! I received a notice from Mr Fink (and a photo from the factory floor of the rifle being built) They should be available through Davidsons soon.

Do you know if they are shipping with the certificate to attend an Appleseed event?  If so, great deal.

That is a right purty looking little gun!  :)  Just got word via email that mine had shipped to my FFL dealer; with a little luck, maybe it'll be ready to pick up on Monday! Wonder if mine will have the Appleseed gift certificate in it...? That'd be handy, as I've signed up for an Appleseed (my first!) here in Maine on December 7th and 8th! Or if it's too late to use the gift certificate for that one, I'll just keep it for the next one - I am quite sure there'll be a next one!  ;D

If you got the e-mail from Davidson's that says the rifle has shipped it should have the order number listed (they don't send a tracking number). You can use FedEx to "Track by Reference." just use the order number, shipping date, and the destination zip code and it should come up, including the actual tracking number. And make sure to let the dealer know to check the shipping box for the gift certificate.

Got out to the range today to try out the 795 LTR. Used another target to make adjustments of the tech sights, but these are the groups my wife and I shot:

I am pleased to report that I picked up my Marlin 795 Appleseed LTR from my FFL this afternoon!  ;D

It looks just like jwebster's, except my "LTR" engraving isn't in red, white, and blue...  ;)

That's the good news; the bad news is that the Appleseed gift certificate wasn't with it (not that I was surprised, after others' experiences). As per Brown's advice, I have contacted Davidsons. We shall see.

But I'm glad I got it, and it looks quite good!   O0  Now if I could just find .22 LR ammunition to run through it...!

Viator (and everyone else),

The certificate MAY be in the shipping box.  So, also check with your local gun store / FFL.

When I called the FFL I had my LTR shipped to (my niece) to ask her to watch for the certificate, she told me the Davidson's guy had asked her to look for it when she unpacked the shipping box.

The rifle looks really good  O0

My FFL received 7 Marlin LTRs last Friday.  The Appleseed gift certificates (all of them) were in a separate, clear plastic bag in the shipping box, NOT in the individual rifles cartons.  Also in the clear bag was a card from Davidson's concerning their guarantee for the rifles.

    So...they're in there...

PS   My guy has a couple left, @ $275 ea, tax included...pm interest.

I shot the upper left, but I was standing/off hand. He was resting partially on the bench with his support arm while shooting the center.
