Suggestions to Military Riflemen, by Townsend Whelen
http://books.google.com/books/about/Suggestions_to_military_riflemen.html?id=TphJAAAAIAAJ

If you want it in hard copy it is available from amazon as well.  I used this to master a bolt gun for the AQT.

Check out the youtube videos:  Search "M1 Garand" and watch the marksmanship videos from the War Department.  I have heard of videos on sling use. and Appleseed videos.

May I humbly suggest "Fred's Guide To Becoming A rifleman" Available from Fred's M-14 stocks; Lots of REALLY good info...... And it ties right in with an Appleseed shoot......

If you have a Barnes & Noble nearby,  stop in and pick up the July/August issue of Backwoods Home magazine.  Massad Ayoob's article is "Preparing for an Appleseed event".

If you have an Ipad or Kindle this is a really good text written by an Appleseed Shoot Boss. It is very complete.

http://www.fredsm14stocks.com/searchquick-submit.sc?keywords=guide

This is the results for searching fo "Guide" on Fred's m14 stocks.  The instructor package gets you a bunch of targets.  If he has a Jacket in your size that package is a great deal.

Two that I found helpful are Service Rifle Marksmanship Guide by the USAMU sold by the CMP and Sight Alignment, Trigger Control and "The Big Lie" by M/SGT James Owens sold on his site Jarhead Top and Midwayusa. Non shooting Paul Revere's Ride helps add to the whole Appleseed experience. If you have earned your Rifleman's patch already these book are still great for refreshers.

Legend,
I would be happy to send you some Appleseeds-specific information that would help you study in order to better prepare you for an event. Just send me a PM with your regular e-mail address and I will reply with several Word documents.

In Liberty,
PHenry

I'll check them out , I am reading the Paul Revere book. I love to read history books that is why this program is so appealing to me the blend of history and rifles. I have been a pistol shooter for many years and have never really got serious about rifle save the box of shells to sight in at hunting time. I'm going to do the Appleseed in October, too busy and too hot before then. I got to get these old bones used to the positions. Thank you for your suggestions.

History books you say, try this:

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/american-rifle-alexander-rose/1009164707?ean=9780553384383

"American Rifle: a biography" by Alexander Rose.

Bought my coppies at Half Price Books for about $8.  Great read. Rifles and their development here form colonial times to now.
