This was the round they used for testing in the new Army carbine program (the program that was just cancelled).
Anyone know if this is in general distribution?

The Army spends Billions of dollars on new laptops, new research into camo patterns and sexual assault courses but we can't get new rifles with 6.5 or 6.8 mm ammo that is cheaper to manufacture and performs better than any 5.56?
I mean Really?
Good stuff. That sure gets the wheels turning! :)....O.L.

The problem with switching to the 6.5 or 6.8 is getting NATO to change everything they have too. Not something you just jump up and do.
There were issues with temperature. See, for example: http://www.gunsandammo.com/2012/03/07/m855a1-should-it-be-the-new-round-for-soldiers-and-marines/
The Marines ditched this round in favor of a bonded core OTM round.
