Title: How do you store your standard 10/22 magazines?
Post by: Kaylee on May 30, 2013, 12:13:34 AM
Been on an organizing jag lately, and I'd like to find some way of cleaning up the rattle of mags in the side pocket of my LTR case.

I've seen a reference online to someone using duty belt speedloader cases, and someone else using a big plastic organizer box. Neither seems to quite do it for me.

What do y'all use?

Plastic lunchmeat container holds 7 snugly.  No rattles, and clear plastic to easily see the contents.

I usually find enough of them on the floor of the SUV, between the seats, in the arm rests, etc.  %)

I've got a Muzzleloader Dry Box from MTM Casegard that I keep everything I need to spend a day on the line as a shooter in.  A brick or two of .22, soft elbow pads, stapler all live in the bottom, 10/22 mags and shooting glasses live in the lift out tray, and in the top compartment I stash staples, ear plugs, and a couple of chamber flags.

The box gets topped off anytime I come back from a shoot so it's ready to go again.

In a Crown Royal bag in my old Craftsman 18" toolbox that is now my Appleseed "possibles" box.

foam lines hardside case holds all in place - even tech site adjust tool, plus tow LTRs - all in a simple grab and go kit that I spent much $ on and never use personally.  :wb:

I store one in each rifle, ever since I went down to the club to sight in my new 10/22 and found I had no mags with me at all. The extras go into one pocket of one of my range bags that is dedicated to Ruger rimfire stuff.

Stored in a 50 cal. ammo can along with a couple bricks of ammo. Forget one and you won't need the other...

I don't have a 10/22, but I keep my .22 magazines in the 50 cal ammo box with the ammo I take to the range (a mix of practice and match ammo). This way, it doesn't matter which 22 rifle I take (both use the same magazines) or where I'm going; I always have magazines and the correct ammo.

Having no two rifles alike and none of them being 10-22s, I keep the mags in the side pockets of the soft cases with each rifle, along with any sight or scope specific tools for that particular set up.  It seems to work out.  I use a small tool tote for the ammo and I am ready to go.

Been there and done that.    A Rifle without a mag is a single shot then a real expensive stick.

Ok, seriously this time:
A while back I bought a multi-color set of 4 Klein Tool zipper tool bags. They are the size of an old fashion bank bag and mine yellow, orange, gray & blue.  I Organized as follows:
Orange: 10/22 kit with mags & tech sight tools
Yellow: M1 Garand kit with various en bloc clips, dry fire block, M1 buddy (for quick cleaing w/o field strip)
Blue: Gadgets & spare parts including laser bore sighte
Gray: Loose tools such as Allen sets, individual screw drivers, etc.

Similar idea I've used is inexpensive nylon pencil bags with a zipper to keep the Marlin and the Mossberg mags apart. Usually pick them up 2 for a dollar at the Dollar store.

I also use a crown bag. They are just a handy size.

I used to use a Crown Royal bag, but then I started keeping my spare shooting glasses in them to prevent scratching.

How do you store your standard 10/22 magazines?

Loaded of course!

I keep 2 in the outside pocket of my soft case and the remainder in my range bag.

Usually end up under the seat of my truck after a shoot. A shooter I loaned them too will return them in the perking lot after I had the rest of the stuff packed up.

Half are in the rifle case pocket - The rattle tells me I have some left.
Half are strewn throughout my house, vehicle, shed, etc...
And half are stored in the bags, equipment and gear, of unknown AS attendees from days past...

Well, I finally found a solution I was happy with - a craft storage box. Costs all of $5 from Amazon, and less I suspect if you find one at Michael's or the like -

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018N92W0/

It's small enough to sit in the side pocket of a 10/22 rifle case, and keeps every mag in its own little compartment so they can't get filled with crud or bang their feed lips together. Also has room for a sight tool and a few cleaning tools. I still want to add a little screwdriver, a tube of loctite , a small brush and a tiny bottle of CLP or the like - but I think it's there -

It's the molded type of hinge, so I'm sure it will eventually give out. But... the thing was just five dollars. And duct tape will fix it. :)
