Title: Full length sizing dies, 9mm
Post by: AllMovingParts on May 18, 2013, 07:30:09 PM
I am looking for a new 9mm sizing die. Looking at Redding products it looks like they offer a full length sizer and a carbide sizer (does not say full-length). Considering I am mostly using random range brass is a full-length sizer needed with 9mm?

I am open to any imput on other brands as well.

I've had excellent service from the Lee full length carbide 9mm die. I had had some issues with hotter 9mm load with certain euro auto-pistols which didn't fully support the case. the Lee die completely fixed the "bulge"problem. I've run thousands and thousands of rounds through my Lee carbide dies.

BTW Redding makes a excellent product too. I've got several of their die set and have no complaints.

My Lee full length carbide started breaking cases regularly after about 3000 rounds, which is why I am looking for a new die.

I'd send that one back to Lee.
My 9mmP old style and new style die have several thousand through them. My original 45ap Lee carbide has untold numbers rounds through it from back in late 80's during my Bulls-eye days.  I just ran a 1000 9mm and 1500 45ap last month, no problems. Now I am anal on my brass prep before running a bunch and cleaning/ lubing the dies when I've finished the run. A lot of crud can build up inside the sizing die.

I have used a  Lyman full length carbide sizer for at least ten years and it has worked great.  I have never had my case gauge reject a round through this die.
