Wilmington, OH 30 & 31 March 2013

A big THANK YOU to Dirtdawg and the rest of the gang at the Clinton County Farmers & Sportsmen Association range for being the BOTG and getting another event arranged.  Again, thanks to the kitchen staff for the DELICIOUS meals they prepared.  You made us feel welcome and right at home.  I appreciate your sacrifices this weekend!

Thanks to slim  -:)  for keeping an eye on me and letting me run the show!  Always enjoy your enthusiasm!

Saturday the temperature was in the mid 50's with lots of sunshine!  Sunday the temperature was below normal for this time of year, with light rainfall until after lunch.

A GREAT weekend to end up the month of March.  An Easter Appleseed?  Well, the fifth Saturday doesn't present any scheduling conflicts, and sometimes we run into a holiday.

We had a surprise visitor on Sunday.  He is an aide to an Ohio Senator.  Both he and his younger brother were interested in Appleseed and I tried to fill him in on our Mission as time permitted.  He said he will be looking to sign up for an upcoming event.   O0

New Rifleman,  Dirtdawg!  Congratulations!   O0

A couple minor safety issues, chamber flags and safeties.  Didn't we cover this well enough?    :sb:  Maybe one of the first things we learn is the first to be forgotten.  Other than that...    :slap:

Several families were in attendance, one of which unable to attend on Sunday, the other it seemed as the weather kept them at home.   :'(

The shooters who returned Sunday were second-time Appleseeders, and I'm glad they stuck it out and braved the Ohio weather for day two.  We even had time for the Instructors to get a bit of trigger time in.

Although KD was mentioned, it was not actually taught.  Importance of KD and "knowing your equipment" was stressed.  We wanted to work more one-on-one with the shooters.   Being set up mid-way on the 50 yard range, the time it would have taken away from the line to set up on another line was not within reason.   Shooters more interested in the AQT Grind!

It is ALWAYS rewarding to me to see the groups get smaller and smaller (step 4a: focus your eye on the front sight) as I work with new shooters, and to see the smiles and enthusiasm to stick it out for the entire weekend!  It makes me feel that I did my job right, and the shooters did their job and came to Appleseed with a TEACHABLE attitude, listened to instructions and put in to use the new skills they have learned.

DOM...FingerTip had been informed that he might be telling one of the stories.  I surprised a shooter when I asked him if he remembered Sam Whittemore.   And was I ever surprised when HE told the story!  Awesome job!   O0

Again, I would like to extend the offer to our two shooters on Sunday to seriously consider taking the Orange Hat.   O0  I know you two have what it takes.

Congrats to FingerTip and Dirtdawg on the IIT promotions.

See you down the trail!

I want to thank you guys again for your time and dedication. Especially for a cold, wet, EASTER Sunday. It was great meeting a couple more Appleseed folk and another future Rifleman.

You definitely caught me off guard on asking about Whittemore. He's at least one of the dangerous old men that I can remember.

As for the hat.. as I've told someone else, it's been something that I've been mulling over. There's still a few more things that I need to find out  about myself before I could step up as such.
