Title: Thermold Magazines
Post by: olefido on March 24, 2013, 03:43:56 PM
Last weekend, I took a trip out to our local Rural King. I was surprised to find about 100 Thermold 30rd AR magazines hanging on the shelf for $16.98 each. I picked up a couple for this weekend( KD Appleseed at Red Brush Range in Indiana  ^:)^). I went to the range later that day to confirm my zero and tried out the Thermolds. They would not feed the rifle. The rounds would hang up on the top edge of the mag well. In fact, one of Redfox24's very high quality handloads had the bullet shoved about half way back into the case neck. The rifle itself had some other issues as well but would feed GI and PMags. It would feed the Thermolds if you put 15-20 rds in the mag but if you just loaded two or three it would hang up all the time. Redfox24 tried them in his AR and they had the same issue. When we took a close look at the Thermolds, it appeared that the magazine follower did not come up as high as on GIs or PMags. I took them back to Rural King and the manager, who was familiar with ARs and shooting, was very helpful and refunded my money. Cavet Emptor!
