Title: Maine Governor's Proclamation
Post by: The Old Guide on March 22, 2013, 09:41:05 AM
Fred asked me to give this the widest possible dissemination:

WHEREAS, the events of April 18 and 19, 1775 brought forth our nation; and
WHEREAS, many Americans today are unaware of the sacrifices and courage of those who stood together on April 19, 1775; and
WHEREAS, the Patriots of Concord and surrounding towns stood together against the Tyrants at Concord Bridge; and
WHEREAS, those Patriots of old prevented the seizure of their firearms and provisions; and
WHEREAS, today's Maine citizens would benefit from learning of and honoring the sacrifices of those patriots of old.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, PAUL R. LEPAGE, Governor of the State of Maine, do hereby recognize April, 2013 as
PATRIOT HISTORY AND HERITAGE RECOGNITION MONTH
throughout the State of Maine, and urge all citizens to recognize this observance.

In testimony whereof, I have caused
the Great Seal of the State to be
hereunto affixed GIVEN under my
hand at Augusta this Twentieth
day of March Two-Thousand Thirteen

Paul R. LePage
Governor

"...'Tis as easy to be heroes as to sit the idle slaves
Of a legendary virtue carved upon our fathers' graves,
Worshippers of light ancestral make the present light a crime;--
Was the Mayflower launched by cowards, steered by men behind their time?
Turn those tracks toward Past or Future, that made Plymouth Rock sublime?

They were men of present valor, stalwart old iconoclasts,
Unconvinced by axe or gibbet that all virtue was the Past's;
But we make their truth our falsehood, thinking that hath made us free,
Hoarding it in mouldy parchments, while our tender spirits flee
The rude grasp of that great Impulse which drove them across the sea..."

Our work will never be finished,,,and maybe that's a good thing.

Have you talked to the governor's staff, or otherwise have some idea that this is going to happen?

I got an email from one of his staff when I first submitted it simply telling me it was received.  This thread reminded me to send a follow-up email about the status, which I did this morning.
