Title: 8 inch steel Appleseed target
Post by: rlandhc on March 18, 2013, 10:35:20 PM
Quick question on what yardage is an 8inch appleseed steel target to be placed?  i.e. 25, 50, 100 to be "scaled" correctly?  I shot in my first Appleseed event this past weekend, enjoyed it so much I have ordered AQT targets, along with a 8inch AR500 target from GongShot.

Remember IMC?
Given that 1 MOA = 1inch per 100 yds
Rifleman shoot to a 4 moa standard.
ergo: an 8 inch target would be 8 moa @ 100 so if you move it to 200 yds it would be 4 moa. Shoot it seated.

I actually think that gongshot makes the 8" target to simulate stage 1 of the AQT out to the 3 ring.

However, that means it will make a good standing target at 25yd, a sitting target at 50yd, and a good prone target at 75 or 100 yd.

Once you've mastered that, double the distances and you'll have a good approximation of just the 4-5 rings...

I cut the black rings from an QDAQT and used them as a pattern and cut them from steel. They work great at 25 and it gives you instant feed back from a .22.
