Title: Muzzle brake design
Post by: technoronin on February 26, 2013, 10:19:33 PM
I will soon have access to both a lathe and milling machine, so my first project for them is to fabricate a muzzle brake for a Mosin-Nagant M91/30.  How to build it looks fairly straightforward, but I have no clue about the size and angles of the ports.  Since there are a lot of very sharp people here, I was hoping someone could point me to resources to figure out those important dimensions.

Thanks!

My recommendation would be to reverse-engineer an existing design to fit your application.

Thread barrel 1/2X28 (double check), pick muzzle brake of your choice.

Buy reloading equipment, load 150 gr bullets at 200 fps slower. Save recoil, save money, no changes needed to your rifle, there will be no noticeable difference out to 500 yards.

Use your new equipment to build steel receivers for 10-22s and 795s. I'd buy one.

Don't forget the appropriate paperwork if you are making receivers to sell.
