In the guns subsection of the discussion site www.reddit.com (http://www.reddit.com/r/guns ) they have informal shooting matches for various types of firearms. This month for rifles with iron sights...the AQT stages 1 and 3, at 50 yards.

I scored a total of 23 out of 45 possible. Pathetic. But I noticed when I went back to 25 yards, my Stage 4 score jumped to 49. Previous best with irons was probably 44, I think.
Good to push yourself!
I also believe in bringing the target in and making it smaller, but close enough to see the holes as they accumulate. Instant feedback.
Thanks for sharing. It sure looks like fun! Another excuse to make the drive to the range.

If you really want to push it and your eyes will allow you to do it. Post the AQT at 100 yards. The net effect is your targets are now reduced at 400, 800, 1200, and 1600 yards on the respective stages of the AQT. I am older, my eyes will not do it on their own, so I consider a scope an option.
Have fun!
I don't think my eyes would do that! I did move back to 50 yards the other day with my mossberg bolt gun, shooting large mouth canning lids, my improvised target of choice. I was a bit surprised at the degree of drop that I had going from 25 to 50 yards.

I'm in a hurry to shoot AQTs with irons this Spring, because I may not be able to next year. Dang targets they make these days are all blurry!

jimmythegeek,
Remind me when we get together in Coupeville next month. I have a special fuzzy AQT that I would be happy to give you. ;)
ShadowMan
If you are properly focused on the front sight the target will always be fuzzy! ;D
Gettin' old sucks but it sure beats the alternative.
