Green Mountain Barrel is having a 12-day sale; today is Day 7. I just scored a 24" stainless bull barrel for $105 shipped for my scoped 10/22. Might buy another barrel or two before it's done - the running boar/biathlon style one is appealing.

Just ordered a 24" stainless bull barrel, item #901946 for a Ruger 10/22. Regularly $174.50 on sale for $87.48 +tax/shipping. Planning on installing it on a receiver I am now using and then adding it to a laminate stock from Stockey's Stocks that I'm hoping to be delievered by Santa in a few days. Should be a fun and interesting project. I'll come back to the tread with a photo when finished.

I have the Volquartsen version of the boar/biathalon barrel on my Ruger 77/22 bolt-action since it is an "all-weather" and I needed to stay with a standard barrel diameter for the nylon stock. Excellent barrel and superbly accurate.
Oh,
THAT KIND of barrel sale.
As a cooper, I was hoping for a barrel barrel sale which would be very useful here on the farm.
Oh, well.. got plenty of THAT kind of barrels here already, hope the sale proves useful to the rest of y'all.

Cooper, will those barrels safely store black powder? Could be useful in TEOTWAWKI.

While neither I nor my immediate progenitors worked as coopers, I do in fact buy oak barrels when I can for TEOTWAKI use, although the use of the acronym might get you banned from the forum, since it did not exist in April 1775.
I do, however own and know how to use a cooper's adze and am learning how to be proficient with a draw knife to make staves. Plastic 5gal and 55gal containers are currently much more cost efficient and I will continue to use them until they are no more...
A real oak barrel has less risk of static discharge.

I'm sorry, I mis-spelled "re-enactments of the Portsmouth Alarm of December 14, 1774."
