Title: What can your sights tell you?
Post by: Colorado Pete on November 16, 2012, 10:11:09 PM
What can your front sight/crosshairs tell you?

Whether or not you're focusing on it (sharp vs. blurry, Step 4a)
Whether or not you have proper sight alignment (Step 1)
Whether or not you have proper sight picture (Step 2)
Whether or not your NPOA is on target (before, and after shooting)
How big your wobble zone is in MOA
Calling where the shot went (Step 6)
Ranging device - military front sight width & height (Duplex crosshairs too)
Elbow under the rifle (vertical tracking while breathing)
Detect movement caused by flinching/bucking/jerking in dry fire/ball & dummy

Listen to your front sight! Much of your self-diagnosis and improvement can be accomplished by the above list.

Appleseed taught me two valuable lessons when it comes to gun sights. One is my eyesight is not as good as it once was and two, bad sights are insurmountable so get good sights before you go to the training. Scopes and red dots are not cheating. The fundamental concepts are still the same and you must follow them to be successful.
