I am new to the M1 Garand. When I turn the windage knob, it clicks but seems like it isn't moving. How many clicks should I hear from it as it moves over one graduated marking on the receiver?
Thanks in advance
For windage, one click equals 1 MOA. Each hash mark is 4 MOA.
For elevation, one click equals 1 MOA.
OK I will turn it four clicks and see if it has moved over to the next hash mark. Thanks!
Douglas334474 is correct. Go ahead and turn the windage knob several turns both directions. Get the feel of it. Watch the hash marks. If you are of the mind to 'zero' your M1, start with the windage in the center. As for elevation, my SA M1 is good at 11 clicks up from all the way down. My Winchester M1 is good at 200 yards at only 8 clicks up. Pick a desired zero distance, either 100 or 200 yards, then write down the number of clicks up from all the way down. From there, the number of clicks to put you on at 300 yards is your "come up" amount, more clicks up to put you on at 400 yards is your "come up" again. Write down or memorize your come ups from zero. When you are zeroed at your desired distance, then loosen the screw in the center of the elevation or windage knob, then you will be able to turn those knobs without changing the settings. Set the knob graduation where you want it, then tighten the screw to set the knob. To further learn about your incredible rifle, the M1 Garand, find the US Army Training Manuel, TM 9-1005-222-12. That is the operator and organizational maintenance manual including repair parts and special tools list. Invaluable! I found one at www.cheaperthandirt.com. Last time I looked, CMP didn't have any more, but they will get more. They're all over. You can find one. Enjoy your M1. It's a delight to shoot. Rodge
Check to make sure the sight screw is tight. Mine wasn't, so my adjustments weren't actually moving the sight.... :wb:
