Title: AAR Fredericksburg, TX Sept. 22-23, 2012
Post by: dragit on September 25, 2012, 11:32:49 AM
Fredericksburg upholds its tradition of having a good time at a slower pace.  Four father/son and three-never-shot-a-rifle-befores.  Three previous shooters brought friends with them (Thank You very much).  Smiles at the end of both days, although no new Riflemen.

Interesting a lot of the shooters were from Dripping Springs, Wimberley and San Marcos.  Smaller places we do not normally pull from.

Thank you to all the shooters for your positive attitudes.  Thank you to Two Wolves, Green Bean, El Tejano, zonkertx, Gypsy and Twinkle Toes for the help.

Thank You to KNS Precision in the Fredericksburg, TX area for helping sponsor the shoot.

Thanks to all of the participants for helping to make this another successful weekend. Green Bean did a great job with his instruction and history. All joking aside, he's got what it takes. The friendship and comradery are priceless to me. Hope to see all of you again shortly, Two Wolves.

I really enjoyed the opportunity to gather with like minded Ameticans.  I big thanks to Dragit for allowing me to get my feet wet instructing.  Thanks to Two Wolves for being a good mentor and helping me become a better Rifleman.

The best picture from the day is this 8yr old (first time ever shooting) shooting sniper style to clear the 100, 200 and head shot on the final red coat.

It was great to meet all of you.  It took a little while to settle in after moving from Kansas, but now I know where to go.  Next time I'll try to bring a friend.

Thanks to all of the volunteers who worked this weekend. I'm the lone sitter amongst all of the prone shooters. It's been two years since I shot my first Davila. I was impressed that the same people were running the Appleseed shoot and instructing. That's dedication. It was just as hard to try for rifleman last weekend as it was two years ago. I want to thank twinkle toes for never letting up on trigger control (I kept slapping it) and emphazing dry firing. I haven't been practicing either. Also he demonstrated how to eat healthy during lunch. Twinkle toes is the healthiest 70 year old I've been around. At 65, I was impressed. I was probably listening better this time and Stringbean taught me the importance of focusing on the reticle instead of the target. It's hard to believe but true: I finally know how to set up the sling. I was confused before. Repetition, repetition, repetition. Although 207 was my best for this shoot, I did clean the redcoat target, a first, and had a blast during the golf ball game. My only regret was that I had two bullets left. Bouncing the orange teams ball off the target boards was my high point during the shoot. The low was the pain I had in my left side. It got bad at times. Monday I went to the emergency clinic. Turns out I was trying to pass a kidney stone. Tuesday I went into surgery. The doctor used a laser to break it up. I sure hope the pain urinating goes away soon. You can guess how he deployed the laser.

Green Bean, sorry about getting your 'handle' wrong. I saw you go prone while sitting and unconciously renamed you.

No problem, but your thinking of Zonkertx.  I was the big jolly fellow in the bright orange hat.  I wish I could do the prone/sitting.

It's always good to get up to Fredericksburg, all the stresses of daily life sort of melt away.  I didn't take any pictures, since Two Wolves does a much nicer job.  I'll just steal his.  I love how he caught the brass in midair after ejection from his super-sweet AR!  :D

Thanks to the attendees and crew for making this yet another great shoot!  It's great to see the crew expanding as well, with Green Bean.  Hopefully there will be a shoot in Laredo so he won't have to drive as far...  The last TX instructor border raid (Pharr) was a lot of fun.

My wife, Maria, was so excited that it was all she talked about on the way home: how sore she was and when was the next Appleseed! A big thank you to all the instructors. Your great attitudes made a memory that Maria will never forget. We'll be back.

Greg, we look forward to seeing both of you again. Bring another rifle and you can "brush up" on your shooting skills.  :)  Maria did a great job. Regards, Two Wolves  :cool2:
