Title: AK 74m
Post by: daniel17319 on September 18, 2012, 05:09:36 PM
I was thinking about bringing my AK74 to the next apple seed shoot, for day too more. I was wondering if anyone has used the webs sling with an AK74 I was also thinking about RPK 74 sights to make adjustments quickly.

you should be able to make the web sling work, even if you have to use zip ties for attachment points,  IIRC, standard soviet slings use leash  clips

The RPK rear sight is a good idea for windage adjustment

from another forum, basic sight data:

/////////////

Sight setting = 1

target at 50 meters = 0 (bullseye)

target at 100 meters = 0

Sight setting = 2

target at 50 meters = 3 cm high

target at 100 meters = 5 cm high

Sight setting = 3

target at 50 meters = 6 cm high

target at 100 meters = 13 cm high

Sight setting = 4

target at 50 meters = 11 cm high

target at 100 meters = 24 cm high

Sight setting = 5

target at 50 meters = 18 cm high

target at 100 meters = 37 cm high

The sight setting to the rear of the "1" is the battle sight. On 7.62x39 it's 300 meters but on the 5.45 AK-74 it should be 400 meters. The US Army manual thinks it's 450 meters but I think they had the front sight a bit off or they shot yards and recorded it as meters. I'll take a closer look at the manuals later.

I shot my SAR-3 in 5.56 last week, bought used, shot cold, no sling.   4 out of 5 in the black on a stage 1 target.     I was pleasantly surprised.

AKs aren't tack drivers  by any means, but a decent  one will definitely do 4 MOA, and often better.  The new Polish Beryls now  offered on the civilian market here  will group under 1.5 " @100 yards.  some of  that is due to  the 5.56 round, but not all of it.

I got a K Var AK 74 so im thinking it will be better then a romanian but there's no way to know for sure until i take it. I think a web sling would work i need to buy one and figure out how to set it up.

The standard Uncle Mikes loops fit if you do not mind a bit of scratching.  It's what I do on my Krink.

I had an M-14 sling on my WASR for a while... I had a railed handguard and a picatinny sling swivel in front.  I have also hooked them to the factory sling hookup point like Techres posted, but with it hooked directly to the barrel, it does give you some very noticeable POI shift from your unslung zero.  On that one I ended up putting an eye screw through the front of the handguard to hook the sling up to with a HK hook.
