:-[heading up to Bolton landing in a couple of weeks and wanted to know if anyone knew of a public range in that area
Hey McFly....
I'm not aware of any public ranges in this area. As far as I know they're all membership-based. If I'm incorrect someone please correct me.

HeartlessMcFly,
You are in the adirondack mountains here as you must know, right along the route Gen. Burgoyne and his troops traveled in route to Albany that ended in the Battles of Saratoga. Just south of yo and to north Ft Ticonderoga, and so many other famous RW sites.
Should you be right here in this area, day trips to some of these sites will leave you with goose bumps, just over the border the in Vermont do many more.
Back on topic, I do not know of any public ranges, as indicated above all in area are members only.
McFly
Go to Lake George and walk run or bike on the trail that the revolutionary soldiers took with all the Field Guns from Ticonderoga,
Look at Bloody Pond,,,the site where the first ever colonial militia annihilated a European trained army.
Before 1775,,,, But, I do not know of a public range in that area.
Mc,
Guess depends what you want to shoot and how you define public range...e.g. Hudson Falls F&G, Rt. 196 in Hudson Falls, NY IS open to public every Sunday for shotgun shooting - suspect if you attended you could talk to club officers re other events/shooting opportunities...could also reach out to officers of Saraspa Fish and Game in Greenfield Center (Mark Rosenzwieg's range = R1sgx2 on forum) as well as Dunham's Bay on Rt. 9L/Ridge Road south of Lake George....nothing to lose - could also contact local gun shops for opportunities: Zack's in Round Lake, Hawk's Corner Sport Shop in Fort Ann, etc...
Jim Tucker is a local NRA Training Counselor - might also be worth contacting...
