Bend of the River Conservation Club in Niles, MI is having our annual club picnic. I have reserved one of our bay's for Project Appleseed. Can anybody come over to Niles that day to do some 7th stepping? I manage and cook for the picnic so I can't help much. I think giving some shooting demonstrations, a taste of heritage, and letting some people shoot would be a great way to fill the lines at the next 2 local Appleseeds in Watervliet and Niles during September and October. I can provide a couple of rifles, mats, and will provide all ammo.
The picnic has over 200 members and their families come. All of our shooting disciplines have a bay to give demonstrations and allow people to shoot a stage. The club provides all ammo. IDPA, USPSA, SASS, .22 Bench Rest, Shotgun, Muzzleloading, Archery, and 3-Gun have pistol bays. A Barrett 50 caliber is available on the rifle range, although there is a $5.00 fee for the ammo. Guests can shoot any of the disciplines except for 3-Gun which which will give demonstrations only.
Ideally 3 people to run the bay would be great. 2 could do it. Feel free to bring your families with you. If only one person can come it would difficult to run a bay but we could setup an area at the clubhouse to 7th Step. Eddie Eagle is scheduled to be here too.

PM - Pitmaster
I am going to post this on the Michigan and Indiana boards. Because of the location about 50% are from both states.
I can do it. I'll have the boys but I am sure they will love the event.
If you end up not getting anyone else I will take a ride over. Good excuse to try and hook up with my son from Chicago.
Natalie, Megan and my wife will be there. I am also checking in with Brian the club president to see if his son Charley would be willing to model the positions in case its necessary.
TC, your boys would have a blast. I was going to call you this week about it.
I will do whatever I can to make sure this goes well for AS. I'm in charge of the picnic and have reserved Bay 2 for AS. That's the first Bay you see while coming down the road. Hopefully a couple of flags and promotional materials can either be brought or sent to me to have available.
Mac, I responded to your PM.
Swamp Thing is denied BBQ again! :sb:
My daughter's (Punk) birthday is the 17th. We have the family all coming over on the 18th for the party.
The double bummer, the request I was going to send to have Pitmaster cook for my party will also be denied. :'(
Have fun folks, this looks like a GREAT time.

When I first thought of this idea I thinking one shooter at a time. But since then there is room to run a line of 5-7 people at a time. I have 5 shooting mats, four 10/22s, ammo, and plenty of magazines. I have one 15 y/o who can model shooting positions (Charely, the club president's son). The way he has been practicing he may shoot be able to shoot a rifleman score. Having a couple of Appleseed banners and brochures to distribute would be good. I have some made up for the next AS at the club.
Knowing this, it would be great to have at least 3 from AS come. Lunch is on the club and the area has things families can do if they wanted to spend the weekend.
TC, give me a call sometime and we can fine tune any needs.
I'll be doing the 3 Gun next week. Will you have time to go over everything then?
Yes.
TC - will see you at 3Gun next week also. Would like to review Muskegon with you.
Are you gonna shoot HeMan division with the M1A?
Great, we can review Muskegon.
Yes, Heavy Metal for me. You?
ST - in the mean time, why don't you start a planning thread and order the shoot box.
Gamer category for me...equipment that outpaces my shooting ability ;D
Shoot box ordered and planning thread started.

Hey guys, here's a thought.
I read about this somewhere on the forum. A club had an open house day and an Appleseeder was allowed to set up.
They brought out a 10/22 LTR and conducted the "Red Coat Challenge". Kids came in one at a time, were given safety rules and 13 rounds. They then shot a RC target and got to keep the target and a sticker. You could set up a line for 3-5 people and do this all day, maybe a few history breaks thrown in for good measure.

That is one of my of my ideas although I would include adults. I hope to have enough volunteers to setup the line like a real AS with the safe area. I would also like some short D.OM. stories told if possible between strings. A little demo intro on prone, sitting, and standing. This can/will be a regular event at our picnic. It also may easily replicated at events other clubs may have.
I wish I could be down there helping but I will have to spend most of my time getting the food ready and organizing up top.
Just a quick bump to get folks attention and hope we can get a couple of others to come over. PM me if interested.
